Just heard this from dispatch: "Howard County Fire is now implementing Order Number 10".
Any one know, first hand, what this means?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike, I heard the same thing! What? Never heard that before, but the tone of dispatch voice was calm. Just the words "special order" caught my attention and wasn't sure if to move quickly to the basement or what. I haven't a clue.

Could it refer to an SOP? The Savage VFD website has a reference to SOP order #1

"Order 10(I can't remember if it is a Special or a General order) details how
available paramedic staffing will be distributed on the apparatus under
certain low-staffing conditions. It was intended to deal with employee
illness and high public demand issues during a pandemic, such as the bird
flu."

Special Order #10's going through a trial run to see how it works before we actually need it for a potential pandemic. It's being put into effect whenever Howard County General and an adjacent hospital are on Yellow Alert at the same time, or during periods of overwhelming EMS call load, at the discretion of EMS-1. At houses that have one medic working, the FF/PM swaps with a FF/EMT from the engine, downgrading the transport unit to BLS and making an ALS engine, the idea being to increase the availabilty of ALS service.
