All signals seem to be strong to me - heard in the last 2 days

Anyone know who the DPL guys are? Anyone know if they are MetroWest, North Shore, South Shore, or Downtown?

I suspect that all 3 DPLs are being used on the same repeater and at the same site / campus / complex

I get them loud and clear whoever they are. Anyone else hear them?

Sooner or later these guys are going to say something that will give away their location. They did mention that there are several pizza shops nearby. They probably narrows it down to somewhere east of the Connecticut River.

Today on 461.175 R DPL 023 they were talking about the "check processing area" - I think there was an injured bird there - the Animal Rescue League showed up later, and they requested a large cardboard box from the mtnce staff.

Sounds like it is a shared repeater for the Tufts University. In all likelihood, they are using one repeater with open-PL/DPL, so it is probably just passing all traffic through it regardless of the input tone, but it would be passing the tone onto the output as well.

Not sure what kind of scanner you are using but your best bet would be to set up some kind of recording software that logs freq, tone, and date/time. Then go back and listen through an entire day to see how things are coordinated. I have a BC246T and use the 246T Audio Recorder to record stuff like this, and it puts every transmission into a separate wave file labelled with freq/tone. Then you can set up folders for each freq/tone combo and keep track of what kind of things are said on each channel. But before you split them up into separate folders, listen to them all in time-sequential order so you can hear when they say, "Switch to channel four", which freq/tone is channel four. Eventually you'll determine their entire channel plan and how they use their radio system.

I have seen something like this before. There's a big warehouse/trucking depot in OKC that has one repeater with 5 DPLs. It's not a priority system (no public safety) so if several people talk at the same time over different "channels", they probably just talk over each other on the repeater and don't realize what happened. But for a small university, they may rarely ever talk over each other.

When I hear Tufts University - they are 5 bar out of 5 bar IIRC

Therefore - it seems that the DPL folks are further away fro me than Tufts University - Tufts Univ is only about 3 miles from me - on the other side of my bld though

Not really, we would only know who is ''Currently Licensed'' and what if the Licensee was an FB6, then you only know the Repeater Owner not the user. There are many still operating with Expired Licenses too

There are plenty of folks [Peter is one] who will spend time searching out the elusive Business Band. Public Safety is the easy one. Try and ID a business band user on an Itinerant channel or someone who arrives in your area with Nationwide License.

If people can give a listen to 461.175 from the North Shore or South Shore, that might help me pin down where these DPL guys are located. The prime candidates seem to be North Billerica, the Pru in Boston, or Flatley in Braintree. (Maybe Mass Mutual Life in Cambridge - I just noticed that listing). They dont talk very much - so this might be more work than it is worth. Peter Sz

From what you've stated, it sounds as though your listed frequency that you hear is for Tufts University in Medford- has at least 4 pizza places on Boston Av. right behind Tufts, has day-to-day operations with regard to EMT's, parking, security and general maintenance. As far as transmissions that are at 2 bars versus 5...those units may be on "direct" meaning that they are not going through the repeater- since your are 3 miles away, this may be a possibility.
