Reports are being received of a new P25 Phase II TRS that just went online in the Coldwater area. The System ID is 8A4, with a WACN of BEE00. The control channels are:
  1. 770.50625c
  2. 771.33125a
Can anyone give this system a listen and confirm if this is the new Branch County P25 TRS?

I think a 6th tower is definitely needed along I-69 in Southern Branch county. During my hunt the signal went completely dead/no signal (not even a hint of signal on SDR#) between the state line and about the Welcome Center (Mile marker 3, I believe). I believe one of the 5 towers are down in that area (near, or just southwest of the weigh station) but it's a complete dead zone on I-69 near the state line.

The system is an EF Johnson Atlas Phase II simulcast comprised of 5 subsites and 4 frequencies.

The application was approved earlier this year by Region 21, however they never submitted it for FCC licensing.

That seems like correct information. While I was in Coldwater yesterday I received that 769Mhz freq, whereas previously, via DX, I had not.

What is Region 21?

The info is accurate. ;)

Region 21 is the Regional Planning Committee (RPC) for Michigan, tasked with handling the 700 MHz public safety narrowband (769-775) and 800 MHz NPSPAC (851-854) allocations throughout the state (excluding the state's SL allocations, which the state themselves have control over). There are 55 RPC's throughout the country, some of which cover a single state, others that cover multiple states, and a few states that are covered by multiple RPC's. The 700 and 800 RPC's don't always line up exactly. For example, 700 MHz in Michigan is fully covered by Region 21, whereas 800 MHz is covered mostly by Region 21, with a small portion of the southwest part of the state covered by Region 54.

The interesting, or enlightening part, is that you say it's an EF Junk radio system, the Sheriff's Dept says it's a Kenwood radio system, and the system has a predominately Motorola WACN, with being BEE00.

It'll be interesting to see what the WACN is for the Randolph County, Indiana radio system. That is a 3-site Kenwood simulcast system, sold by the same company (J&K Communications).

I'm not sure why you're calling EFJ "junk", as they make pretty good quality hardware. EFJ has been part of Kenwood for quite some time now (the parent company is JVCKenwood), and most of their equipment is branded as Kenwood, so regardless of what anyone calls it...same difference.

As I stated in the other thread, BEE00 is the WACN that MSI systems predominantly use, but it's certainly not exclusive to them. EFJ/Kenwood probably used the WACN when users need to have easy interoperability with neighboring ASTRO 25 systems, it just makes life a little bit easier when the only variable that changes is the SysID.
