WOW! awesome info... is it safe to assume that they will use the same freq this year as they did in 08?

118.175 has been the airboss freq for the last couple of years, I would expect that to be the same for this year also.

The Blue Angels are back again this year. The airboss usually turns over control to the Blue Angels airboss when they start their show. All the Blue Angels freqs I have listed were active in 2007, so I would expect most of that to be the same also.

Yeah if you want to hear the angels you will need one. Although, most of the stuff going on in the air is on that airboss freq.

Also, if any Military aircraft decide to do a flyby like in 2006, they had a B-2 come through, they were on the YIP & DTW military tower freqs.

i am sure i could find DTW and YIP tower freqs... but if know them off the top of your head, could you post them up? then this could be the one stop ToM thread... :)

i guess my question now is...

what freq should i program... not being in a normal listening range of there i dont know what is what...

i am going to program all the freq listed on the 2008 show page, also all the Blue Angels freq, but ive read there are supposed to be a bunch of c130's this year... and i would also like to hear the fly bys too and in air demonstrations...

thanks for the help so far...

I would program as much as that as you can. You can always lock a channel out if you don't want to hear it.

The airboss channel listed above is going to be the main channel (as long as they don't change freqs this year). Not sure on the C-130's since this is the first year a bunch of them will be there. If they are all flying together they may have a discrete air to air freq they will be using. More than likely it will be somewhere in the Military Aircraft band.

just started programming/alpha tagging everything... the only thing i could find for DTW is a moto Type II Smartnet with things like maintenance, snow crews, security..etc... i dont think they would be associated with the airshow so i dont think i am going to program them....

pbryan,

Thanks for posting those freqs. I listened to the Blue Angels today mark their territory for the show and those freqs were right on. Not sure about the B52 and or B2 freqs but we shall find out on Saturday.

Thanks!

Well, here is a preview of the freqs that will probably be used tommorow. I was out there today and watched the Blue Angels practice:

118.175 Airboss (very active)
125.275 Willow Run Tower
256.900 Willow Run Tower Military
121.750 Willow Run Ground
384.550 F-16 Viper Flight
129.700 Mustang & F-16 Viper Heritage Flight
123.150 F-4 Phantom & Mig 17 Flight (discrete channel)

142.6125 Blue Angels Comm Cart Alpha 3A (Airboss to Moe)
139.8125 Blue Angels Comm Cart Bravo 3 (Maintenance Ops)
305.5000 Blue Angels Fat Albert (Bert) - "Ready to rock the great State of Michigan!"
346.5000 Blue Angels Start-up (ground only)
237.8000 Blue Angels Solos
284.2500 Blue Angels Delta Formation
275.3500 Blue Angels Diamond Formation

All the above were active. Here are a few more I didn't hear used today, but could be used tommorow. I have heard them in the past active:

130.650 Air/Air T-6 Texans & Lancaster Bomber
123.450 Air/Air Photo plane
120.900 Air/Air Photo plane
136.675 Heritage Flight (previous years)

Airboss freq

Can anyone verify 118.175 as airboss, I barely heard anything on that freq.
The Phantom demo and B-52 flyby were also totally silent.
Blues I got pretty well.
I'm thinking maybe my stock antenna is crap, trying a different one for tomorrow.
Last year though, airboss was coming through loud and clear, I doubt if I've hard a minutes worth of traffic in 2 days, somethings not right.

The spot I was at, and will be at tomorrow, is a little factory right off of Michigan on a loop road called Schooner, between Beck & Denten, marked with the red dot.
Pretty good spot, the flight path [red line] of the majority of performers is very close to this spot - The only thing that stopped me from moving just a bit over to the west, where I'd be right under the flight line, is that its a residential area, with private homes.
But as it stands, not too shabby, and many of the Angel passes were right over my head.

If anyone can fill in any freq holes here, or knows of a potential better spot, post back.
Plenty of room at my spot, lots of room for kids to run around and play.
You see a guy with a scanner and black hat and sun glasses, its likely me.

The only thing that bugs me about this spot is trees block alot of the ingress and outgress ,,, But thats almost unavoidable in almost any spot around the airport.
I know of some better ones, but cops are usually there blocking access, especially with the Blues there, so I'm not even going to try.

I was on the corner of Beck & Ecorse Friday, cops let a bunch of people group up there.
Not a bad view, but most of the action was far to the side.

Must be your radio or antenna, I was at the show today and all those freqs I listed were used today. Airboss was very active.
