911 Dispatch switch flipped to county
White Bear dispatchers Angie Stewart, Wendy Colucci and Naomi Tiffany as they counted down to the switch over.
WHITE BEAR LAKE — At 10 a.m. May 1, the switch was flipped in dispatch, redirecting all calls to Ramsey County Communications Center (dispatch).
“While the transfer appeared seamless, it was only made possible through a tremendous amount of planning and preparation,” noted City Manager Ellen Richter. “Hats off to our dispatch, police and fire personnel.”
Last year the City Council painstakingly deliberated over a very difficult decision and took a leap of faith, Richter said. “The success of this process reinforces the confidence held by our council in the great work you all do, and in your commitment to excellence.”
The city manager said a special thanks to the dispatch staff “who hung in there” through the transition. Wendy Colucci is retiring after 35 years as a city employee. Angie Stewart and Naomi Tiffany will stay with the department, performing services that can’t be transferred to Ramsey County, and taking on new responsibilities. Ben Leibel will resume his duties as a community service officer.
Moving forward, all emergency (911) and nonemergency (8511) calls will go directly to the Ramsey County Communication Center, where they will be dispatched to public safety personnel accordingly.
“We are confident in the partnership we’ve forged with Ramsey County Communication Center staff and their ability to provide great service to our community,” Richter said.
