Pretty much completely off topic, but I think this is a pretty huge deal for Mississippi and the word needs to spread any way possible. Delete if deemed inappropriate.

C Spire announces nine city finalists for new service - Mississippi Business Journal
RIDGELAND — Nine Mississippi cities have been selected finalists in C Spire’s “Get Fiber First Challenge,” a project to provide homes with Internet and digital television connections that are 100 times faster than the national average.

During Monday’s announcement at the C Spire headquarters in Ridgeland, officials explained the next step for the finalists, and unveiled the pricing for the service, which will move data at one-gigabit-per-second along a fiber optic network.

Batesville, Clinton, Corinth, Hattiesburg, Horn Lake, McComb, Quitman, Ridgeland and Starkville were selected from 33 cities and towns who submitted applications last month to be the first to obtain the fiber optic technology for their town.

...and one year later, to the day...

News | C Spire Wireless

Quitman, Miss. (November 10, 2014) – Quitman, a small 2,300 population town in rural Mississippi, may soon be one of the nation’s most technologically advanced cities as C Spire activates the first customers on its ultra-high speed 1 Gbps (Gigabit per second) broadband Internet network.

C Spire, a Ridgeland-based diversified telecommunications and technology services company, turned up service today for its first commercial Fiber to the Home customers in the town, which has struggled economically in recent years with job losses, plant closings and population shifts to bigger cities as the standard of living plummeted in the Clarke County community.

All of that is likely to change soon, though, as the town is the first in Mississippi and one of only a handful in the U.S. with access to fiber-based broadband Internet that is 100 times faster than the national average along with super HD TV and related home phone services from C Spire.

And maybe in another year, McComb, and the others will start seeing it? :)

Though if Hattiesburg and Starkville get it, you can bet your bottom dollar, 2 certain Universities will get major bragging/recruiting rights to say "Hey we rock the fastest internet in the world!"
