Hello... I did some searching but didn't find much... this is a two part question regarding Amateur radio and scanning frequencies... I already searched the Amateur radio forum and didn't find much. I also have looked at https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?stid=29&tab=ham.
My sons are doing the Berryman Loop trail hike in the Mark Twain National forest around Christmas day. Ozark Trail Planner - Results Overview
They have ham radio licenses and Yaesu FT-270 2 meter HT's.
I contacted a few of the closest ham clubs and asked about their repeaters. No one could say for sure if there is a repeater that can be hit while on the Berryman trail. The trail looks to be right between Crawford and Washington counties.
It looks like the best chance is in Potosi:
Missouri Amateur and GMRS radio repeaters
146.715 - N0VOJ 88.5 Potosi Missouri
147.195 + n0wnc 141.3 Potosi Missouri
Question: Has anyone every tried to hit a repeater while hiking anywhere in the Mark Twain National Forest? Or on the Berryman trail specifically?
Also, I figure I will program the scanning frequencies for Crawford and Washington counties so they can scan those.
Thanks for any info you guys may have!!
Fred
