Help! MT1000 Squelch Stuck.

I have a Moto MT1000 Vhf Low band 99ch Model H41GCJ7130AN. All was well after programming, then the squelch stuck open. It will still TX and RX fine but the static remains between. I had the squelch settings readjusted, but to no avail. I can find almost no information on this radio. Any ideas?

Sometimes people program one of the buttons on the side (not the PTT) to be an open squelch and it sounds like it may have gotten stuck in the pressed position. Try tapping them. If that doesn't work, try reprogramming the radio and removing the open squelch feature from the radio.

If a button is programmed to open the squelch it would be programmed as the monitor button.

Side Buttons

I have looked through every last page of the mt1000 rss, and there is no program options for the side buttons. I believe they have premanent, unchangeable functions. Last night I disassembled the radio and peeled the pads off of the microswitches for the squelch and display light just to deactivate them and rule them out as a problem. When I powered up the radio the problem persisted, so it is not a switch malfunction. Now I am really out of ideas...

Sounds like a costly problem there. Was hoping it was a button problem.

Got it!

Found the problem! Inside the controller, the entire circuit is soldered to a thin film, then folded in half. In between the halves, there is a metal plate. The film is then soldered to the plate in the middle. In the top corner closest to the double row of connections, the layers are supposed to be soldered together. I found where they had disconnected, and soldered them back together. I then put the radio back together, crossed my fingers, and turned the puppy on. Presto, one fixed and quiet MT1000. I hope this is useful for anyone that comes across the same problem.
