To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am in the process of programming an HT-1000 DN version and MTS-2000 for narrowband.
Do I have to select a specific setting (narrow/wide) somewhere in the RSS or will the 12.5 spacing selection automatically put the radios into narrowband modulation?
Thx in advance!!

The 'bandwidth' is set on the Mode Options screen. 25k good ole bandwidth.

20k 4khz deviation. which we had in the 70's on VHF.
12.5 is for 2.5 khz deviation. Now called narrow band....

we went to 'narrowband' in the late 60's.. 5k dev and 25 k channel spacing.

Your HT1000 with the DN suffix is narrowband capable if, where you have the option of 25 or 12.5 kHz you set it to 12.5 kHz, and it's as simple as that. If the RSS also has a deviation setting then you obviously set that to 2.5 kHz and that's the end of things and you're all set.

Quick follow up question - I have several HT-1000's that are VHF "BN" models. My software allows me to select IF=12.5 KHz on the f2 screen for each channel. The radios will not accept the .00025 channels (VCALL/VTAC etc) When programmed this way are they actually limiting deviation to 2.5KHz? Is there anything else that needs to be changed to make them NB compatible?

The BN models are capable of NB 12.5 as you've found out but they won't do the so called splinter frequencies (step). Only the DNs could do this.

I do not believe the Dn models will do the new splinter channels, but will do the splinter channels that were available in the late 90's early 00's, since there is no rebanding upgrade for the HT/MT/MTS platforms like there are for the Astro/XTS/XTL series.
