• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have tried to search Google and even tried /\/\ latest software.

Am I missing something?

Can't get a .6375 or .6125 in the pager.

It says "invalid spur?

Only 25khz channel tuning on Minitor V? I sure hope not.

If you look in the PPS software help file under "Spur", it lists quite a few invalid frequencies. Since you didn't provide the whole frequency, it's impossible to tell if they are on the forbidden list, but you can look for yourself. Open the help file and look under "Spur" in the contents. When you click on "Spur" the list for all the different bands will show up.

Make sure you have Pager Firmware Version 3.0 installed in the pager... Also, you must make sure you are using Motorola Minitor V PPS is version 1.7.2 (Released 09/28/2007).

There is not reason those frequencies shouldn't work in your Minitor V pagers, unless the above criteria has not been met.

Check you're firmware revision; Motorola released the update back in 2008 to correct a whole list of issues. Version 3.0 is the latest firmware for these pagers and can be updated easily by any user with the PPS software and cradle. Also, make sure you're using the latest PPS as this will modify your code plug with the newer firmware.

The latest Motorola Minitor PPS can be downloaded here: http://www.motorola.com/Business/US-EN/Business+Product+and+Services/Two-Way+Radios+and+Pagers+-+Business/Pagers/MINITOR+V_US-EN#support_tab

Thanks much, I will report back, I could find nothing on this with Google.

Great news!

The link I provided is just for the PPS and NOT the firmware. If you do not have firmware 3.0; you will need to obtain a copy; but you can read and write pagers with the latest PPS without issue.

Good luck, I'll be monitoring the thread.

W2GLD maybe you can answer a question for me, too. None of my department pagers report their firmware through the PPS (yes, it's the latest version). All report it as 0.00 whether they were manufactured 5 years ago, or last month. Any ideas? Thanks.

Yes firmware 3.0 S/W 1.72.I never knew of the "forbidden list".

460.6375 is on the help file as a spur, that really bad.

If anyone knows or can suggest a workaround let me know.

Thank-you all.

The firmware only shows up in the PPS when you actually read the pager and it's connected to the cradle; if you are simply viewing a codeplug without the pager attached it will display "Pager Firmware Version: 0.00"

Again, you should make sure you are using the latest PPS to read and write these pagers as there were numerous issues with older releases. One reason Motorola made the PPS publicly available for free download to it's customers.

As a preventive maintenance issue; when servicing all of you're pagers for narrowband compliance, it would be a good time to make sure they are all running the latest firmware and you should ONLY use the latest PPS; then read and write each pager to insure the codeplugs versions are updated.

When a pager is sent into the depot, this process happens automatically, but Motorola is expecting it's users to be utilizing the most recent releases of their software. That said, 90% of users issues are solved with simple firmware and software updates.

I hope that helps...

Regards,

Jerry

If you found that in print on some Motorola document, the only choice you have is to call them for direction; however, since it was listed in the pre-sales documentation, you're likely screwed... But, it's still worth a call to Motorola Customer Support.

The radio creates spurs or birdies on this channel as other have noted
I talked with motorola support and they do not offer a "special" order.

Only offered "SP" on VHF.

Check those forbidden channels before getting a Minitor V, no workaround.
