Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello

On my new XTS 2500 I've been going through the CPS for a while now but can't seem to figure this one out. This radio is used for public safety and is operating on all conventional analog channels.

Basically id like to have the numerical MDC of other units (EX 4345) displayed on my radio when they key up. What is that function called in the CPS? MDC decode?

Also do I have to broadcast an MDC numerical or can I just recieve others numericals without doing so myself? Basically id like the ability to see others ID when they key up.

1) To see if your radio is capable of decoding and displaying MDC PTT-IDs, go to Radio Configuration|Display/Menu and see if you have a tab called "PTT-ID."

2) If so, check "Display ID" and "Scan Display ID."

3) IDs will come up as a 4-digit hexadecimal number.

4) If you create an MDC call list with IDs of your users and an alias for them, and then point to this call list on the Conventional|Personality|MDC screen, the radio will display the alias instead of the hex for any ID contained on that list.

Another quick question regarding the MDC system.

I noticed that the MDC sound on my HT1250 seems signifgantly louder than that of other newer radios on our system.

I like the feature of the MDC as I can transmit my unit number when speaking on our dispatch channel. I currently have a post transmit MDC with my number. Is there any way In the CPS to lower the intensity of the sounds of the MDC system on this radio. It seems long and drawn out as compared to other radios operating on our system.

Thanks in advance for any insight.
