• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Need some help with an XPR 4550 VHF programmed in the 2 meter ham band on repeater frequency 145.47 with an 88.5 PL on transmit and receive. The problem is the radio totally ignores the RECEIVE PL and behaves as if it was CSQ. I have a CDM 1250 programmed the same way on the same frequency and pl and it does not unmute unless it hears the 88.5 tone. Does anyone have any ideas why the XPR is ignoring the PL tone?
Thanks.

DO you have a button programmed for Monitor? Do you have the sideways speaker icon on your display? do you have Off Hook PL programmed in the CPS? There are many things that can be causing this.

Yep. That was it. Radio is programmed for mic clip must be grounded. It just dawned on me probably right as you posted this. Thanks. So for all those wondering, I had the radio programmed so that the mic clip had to be grounded and the mic hung up in the clip.

The clip does not have to be grounded. The off hook window allows the radio to stay in decode mode when the mic is off hook. Radio will always be in decode, on or off. The grounding is done on the mic itself, the 4 tabs on the back make contact with the center hang up portion. Motorola did away with the mic clip to medal for grounding years ago. Also a check box that allows the radio to scan off hook.

I was just having the exact same problem with a 6550 I recently acquired, I'm new to the Moto CPS and after reading this thread I realized there was a PL type feature associated with my scan list and it was disabled by default. After changing that setting the problem went away.
