• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi guys,

I have an Astro Saber II flashcode 000001 000000-9 and the damn thing wont pass self test after installing a DES-XL module. Have tried back and forth enabling/disabling secure HW in the CPS as well as removed/installed the module several times but still the same. Radio passes just fine after I´ve removed the module. Thought that all Astro Sabers were born with secure capability as default but I gues I was wrong?

I´ve tried with both the NTN8967 and NTN1153.

Ok so obviously the board is what is causing the error. Is it because the Sabre isn't compatible with the DES-XL board? It seems like it doesn't want to accept the encryption. Have you tried to program it? Were you able to successfully read/write?

Thanks for replying I appreciate it.

So what I´m looking for then is a decent S-record. Anyone out there having Host version 07.71.00 that maybe could do?

Another issue likely(If you want to use encryption on digital voice) is you have an analogue only flash. You likely also have analogue only DSP as well.

It will probably be easier and cheaper to find an Astro Saber with a encryption capable flash/HOST/DSP than trying to do it yourself. Likely If it has the software capability, it will also have the hardware as well.

You can try FDB tool and change the option package and some of the option strings and see if that works. Granted it will only be analog Securenet. I personally have never heard of an Astro radio not working with secure, but I guess depending on the firmware maybe it doesn't like an enhanced module since the 8967 has DES-OFB which is for P-25.

Also note these exceptions for the 1153:

UCM modules for Astro Saber require
HOST firmware >7.xx. NTN 1712
appears to have replaced the
NTN7771, NTN7772, NTN1152,
NTN1153 and NTN1562 modules.
Note that NTN1712 is a UCM and
requires recent host firmware to
function.
