• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

We are trying to find a system that will allow an external group's XPR radio to be field patched into one of our APX radios (all portable).

If it was as simple as a cable with a built-in controller, that would be great, but we are open to any suggestions. We can't seem to find an ACU module configuration that would work, and we don't need 5+ interconnections at a reasonable price point.

So, first question is have you talked with JPS. I have done a patch with XPR-4NXX an XPR-5NXX with out issues on ACU units.

Second, how about a Telex IP223 with the XPR on one port an the APX on the other.

Maybe two NXU units back to back.

We have someone having that conversation with JPS now, and hopefully we will get a better idea of what they can offer that suits this need.

Both of those radio series are mobile - we know JPS has mobile interface cables, but we have never seen portable ones.

Thank you for the recommendation for Telex - we are only familiar with JPS hardware, but not much.

2 stacked NXUs might be a good idea. We would have to see if they can work fine with a regular cable or if they need a crossover. Would also have to see if there are any special network configuration requirements - if it's not in the manual, we can ask JPS when we get to that.

Same problem with the NXU with ACU - need to find interface cables that work with APX/XPR portables.

So one place to look is in the template directory for the ACU software. PM your info an I can look for you tomorrow. Have some in the back as I use them for everything from ACU connections to Asterisk connection's with a USB dongle.

If you can get your hands on a 2ch MIP and the appropriate gateways you could configure a laptop to operate as a console and simply patch the two resources. (Note: the SIDs will NOT transfer over)

Never tried to use portables but done it several time with mobiles. We use RA-2T Repeater Adaptor off of ebay. Very good quality of audio. All you have to do is cut one end off and add the APX acc connector to it. The RA-2T is the box between the radios.

JPS ACU M is what you want. Has 4 ports and plug and play. Ours has cables for motorola, EFJ and Harris portables. Menu driven screen lets us choose the radio, then one button to patch. Its a great little unit.

JPS ACU-1000s can be found on eBay for pretty cheap. You'd just need two DSP modules. One to your APX and other to XPR.
