• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Over the past few days I have an XTS 3000 that has developed an odd issue. When keying up the radio will kick back with a TX inhibit tone. This is happening on both the conventional and trunked channels in the zone.

There is no TX inhibit option on the XTS3000 for trunked channels in CPS that I am aware of, but if there is and I've missed it, tell me where to look and see if something got messed up when Zone 8 was recently changed around.

The radio has PTT physically disabled in the radio, has been that way for years, TX must be done with a speaker mic. I swapped the speaker mics, same issue is coming up. It is completely random. Hit the PTT it can work 10 times then a TX inhibit tone, or TX inhibit tone 2 or 3 times in a row and then have no issues the next 12 times you hit the PTT.

Suggestions are welcome.

I know, I know, it may be cheaper just to replace the radio than repair it at this point (too bad an APX8000 is no where even close to my budget ... unless maybe my kid doesn't need to go to college ... hmmmmm)

Low battery, or VCO unlocking, if in NAS scan radio picking a receive only channel.

XTS-3000 800 mhz are under $100.00, or if you want to upgrade and don't need Phase II lots of XTS-5000 around for decent prices now. I paid a lot a few years back. I recently just picked up an XTS-2500 7/800 for $125.00 charger and speaker mic. AN models are even cheaper than that.

I'll try a new battery, I had not thought about that. If that doesn't solve it, I'll pick up another radio and clone this one over in the CPS.

I have an XTS2500 I also use, I just keep the XTS2500 in my truck or at home, since it monitors two systems that neighbour each other in a single zone, and the XTS3000 sits in the radio strap with my bunker coat, since I only operate on one of those systems.

Thanks.
