• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have programmed another agencies dispatch channel into my radio. I currently have RX only checked. My question is if I uncheck RX only will the radio transmit or make its presence known on the system? I also have ARS checked as disabled.

Thanks

If it's analog, it should only allow the transmission on whatever frequency is specified.
If it's trunking then your radio would have already affiliated with the network regardless of whether you have RX only checked or not.

No, it will not.

Perhaps provide an additional "oops" failsafe by entering one of YOUR authorized simplex frequencies (or other system channel of YOURS) for transmit, even when you have checked it as "rx only".

This is a secondary catch in case you accidently uncheck it down the line and not notice it when dog-tired etc. Not likely to happen, but it costs nothing to do.

I'm not sure how this question differs from the last question? The answer is still no.

Ok thanks. Well the reason it differs from the last question is that in this scenario the channel is not set to RX only. I think this makes it clear then that as long as ARS is disabled then nothing is going to be transmitted unless PTT is pressed.

Not true. Radio sends periodic messages to the system in RX only is not checked. Depending on type and distance from site, they most consist of wakeup messages to repeaters. TT

It checks in on IPSC, Cap Plus, LCP, and Connect Plus. I think is also does it in conventional as well, but I have limited experience with that configuration. TT

So you are saying that the IPSC radios never transmit unless the operator hits the PTT button (or some other data is enabled in the radios)? I have been working with TRBO for 11 years and happen to work on TRBO systems everyday. If your radios are not transmitting, then you have a problem. TT

That’s exactly what I’m saying. Who are they going to affiliate with? There is no controller in an IPSC system.

My friend, you should brush up with the System Planner! The radios send our periodic "Wake Up" messages to the repeater to make sure it is still "Alive," especially if it has not heard from said repeater in a defined window. It also sends out "Wake Up" messages to repeaters in its Roam List in order to command them to keyup up in order to assess RSSI level. TT

How is the subscriber radio going to find out which site to connect to if it doesn't know which one is the closest? It needs to find the strength of each site by telling the repeater to transmit a burst and the radio assesses that to connect to the right site seamlessly.
