• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I was recently reading about newer versions of CPS after 2013 not allowing non narrowband frequencies in the APX radios, and was wondering if this applies to the FPP frequencies too.

I have an APX 4000 in VHF, that was likely last programmed with CPS R14 or R15, but I have R18. I want to make sure I don't mess it up. Right now, I can take any frequency in FPP, and edit the bandwidth, I want to know I can still do that after using R18.

I believe that R15 was when this changed, and if so, my radio still supports this via FPP.

I also know that ham, MURS 4 and 5, NOAA and marine are still allowed in wideband 25KHz, and being this is mainly for ham, I should be fine.

I am familiar with Moto's CPS on other radios such as XTS, Jedi, etc, so this is nothing new to me.

I just sold my 8000, but it had FW 14.52, & was last programmed with CPS 17. No problem with wide band on any freq, using FPP. It’s the flash code which decides if it’s wide band, or not.

This is the culprit which decides if the APX will do wide band, or not. Q507 12.5 kHz FCC Mandate. If Q507 is in your flash code, the radio is narrow band. So you do not want Q507 in your flash code.

That is correct the national weather service is still wide band hence the need for a wide band authorization for those that would like to monitor the NWS on their narrowband radios.

Even if the radio's FLASHcode does have Q507 - 12.5 kHz FCC Mandate, the radio/CPS knows what frequencies that applies to, and which are exempt.

As noted in the below screenshot right out of the APX CPS, you will still be able to use 5 kHz with those exempted frequencies.
