• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all,

Anyone know where I can get a replacement Astro Saber III housing unit? The one I currently have is starting to show its age. My MOL account is giving me big ones and I'm waiting to hear back from Motorola on getting back into the account after years of it being dormant. If anyone could verify if they still have any in stock, and the list price, that'd be great. Or, if anyone knows where I can get one, please let me know.

As a last resort, I'll probably end up purchasing another Astro and just stealing the case from it and putting it into mine, and reselling it; although I'd rather not deal with such the hassle, although it may be a cheaper alternative.

Thanks all for your input and reading!

Nick

You are better off buying a nice-looking cheap 800 AS3 and swapping the housing and tags if possible. Those would be long-NLA and the spare housings seem rare.

Ugh, I figured as much, just thought I'd put some feelers out there to see before I went that route. Thanks and happy holidays!

There are a few that pop up on ebay from time to time but mostly has to be take from a transplant

no way moto has any left- it was discontinued in 2002 and they only support for a few more yrs after that. and likely anything left was bought by the LAPD a decade ago

Thanks guys for the information. I didn't know what is still available and not available for the Astro Saber series. Just last week I ordered a brand new lapel microphone for my AS from Motorola, so... I guess you can still get some things but not others, that is, at least until stock runs out I assume.
