Lost Channel 5 on Tuesday. Heard that they've started the shut down of the old VHF patch over early. It wasn't supposed to happen until July. I guess they figure things are working well enough to do so. Whether they are or not, they're going to switch over no matter what.

The other channels still seem to be working. But, for how long???

I'm with you radact. It won't be long before all we have to listen to is NOAA weather radio. That is until government funding for them runs out. :)

At least they will be left with a warm fuzzy feeling that "all those bad guys evading them with scanners and phone apps" won't be able to hear them anymore. The real question is will it make a difference? Probably not. (Well maybe in the taxpayers pocketbooks, but that's about it.)

Makes you wonder...who will be watching the watchers?

Good luck Broken Sky...you're going to need it.

This maybe a stupid question but I am throwing it out there.I understand LVMP is going to open sky what about North Las Vegas or Fire and EMS and State Patrol. I do no live in Las Vegas but do visit 2-3 times a year and I bring my scanner. I do enjoy hearing the casino's on the weekend with the problems they have. I do understand that LVMP covers a large area but are you saying the entire city will go quite?
Thank You

No, the BrokenSky isn't falling just yet. Sorry couldn't resist. :)

Only the Las Vegas Secret Police are moving to BrokenSky, at least at this time. NLV, Henderson, Boulder City, and numerous other agencies are still out there to listen to as well as most of the casinos.

That being said, I have no doubt that other agencies will be scammed by sales reps to jump on the digital and or encryption highway (rumors of SNACC going digital are already out there) but only time will tell.

Enjoy your listening now, while you still can.

I am wondering if it would be worthwhile to take my extra P7300 and start a feed. Would that violate the TOS since the entire system is 'encrypted'? I can scan only the normal dispatch talkgroups and leave out the 'tactical' ones.

The only question is, I will have to check and see how well it works from my rental out by Nellis.

I may be wrong but I don't think opensky is considered to be "encrypted" as the law states. it is a proprietary system but that doesn't mean it is in the same encrypted category. Same as mototurbo and other types. Someone may correct me on this, however, so stand by.

I lost Convention Center Area Command and also NW Area Command, Both have been dead for 2 days now. Did LVMPD Shut down VHF? Does anyone know if there are plans for a Opensky Scanner?

Still picking up NW (159.0300 77.0 PL) and Convention Center (158.77500 173.8 PL) here on my BCT15X. Maybe they were shut down temporarily, who knows.

Last word was for the switchover to be completed in July but as you know with BS that date is always a moving target. :)

An OpenSky radio?...LOL..I wouldn't hold my breath!
Being unmonitorable is one of OS's biggest selling points.

South east still comes in, but it's weak compared to south central. Which is odd since I'm listening to it closer to SE than SC.

They all should be coming from the same place now, since communications is broadcasting a patched signal for audio only.

Well they seem much different on the scanner. SC sounds much clearer

Well if that's the case they have found a way to mimic the different signal strengths for each area. NW and Enterprise have a much nosier/weaker signal than the other districts at my location.

I guess in comparison to each other if your talking about signal strength. If your referring to the audio and the BrokenSky garble, they all sound crummy to me. Personally, the patches might as well be off now. I hardly listen to them anymore because of how annoying it sounds.
Hey maybe that was the plan Harris had all along!:)

In any event the nightmare will be over soon....at least for us scanner listeners....for Metro, it's just beginning. ;)

Metro's DesertSky

Well, it's June 30th and supposedly the final patch over switch is to be taken out of service this up coming week.

We'll see what happens. Everyone cuddle and comfort your scanners.

I'm up! Oh wait, my scanner says 'Harris' on the front.....

I'm up too! And my scanner says 'Uniden' on the front.

What a surprise another BrokenSky deadline come and gone!

FWIW, when I first purchased my scanner, the local retailer stated they had just talked with some Metro officers who told them the changeover would be occurring at the end of July....this was July of 2010!

I'm sure they just need to tweak things, a little bit more!

I don' think it took us this long to put a man on the moon!

They've been having some issues with the system lately. (Not a surprise there). To be honest, it seems like the audio quality is on par or a little better than it used to be, but officers have trouble getting on the air to broadcast things. They recently put out a radio survey for officers to complete, asking about basic functions, what they like, what they don't like, etc. We'll see what happens with it I guess. I would be nice if Harris had manned up when they aquired Tyco/MA-Com and said "this system sucks, so we're going to switch it out for a better system."

Now I'd like to see the results of that survey! ;)

Couldn't agree more. From what I've see though, it doesn't seem like Harris is the type of company to admit it's mistakes.

Hey guys I was under the under the impression NE 159.2100 had been un-patched since I had not heard it in a while. Listening today and NE is coming in loud and clear again.

I can confirm that as well.

Nothing surprises me anymore regarding the LVMPD and their BrokenSky "roll-out".
