When is the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department going to switch over to opensky system ? And what scanner will you need to pick them up.

Also does the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department dispactch calls like shoplifting , theft ,fraud ,cold B&E ,suspicious person , suspicious car ,noise complaints ,alarm or other complaints over radio or is this dispatch over the computer.

And radio traffic like traffic stop or out with person is this done over radio or the computer .

How much does the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department use their radio ?

Hello Car55,

Las Vegas Metro is already using the Open Sky system. That is all they are using. They are not utilizing the old VHF analog system anymore.

You can still listen to Metro as they rebroadcast (simulcast) their Open Sky traffic on the old VHF frequencies. It's still up in the air as to when that will end.

At the moment, there is no scanner being sold in the US that can receive & decode their digital transmissions, so enjoy the simulcasts while you still can.

Metro still dispatches for all the reasons you outlined below, however most dispositions are dispatched using 400 codes. You can get their list of 400 codes on the internet so you know what they are talking about.

Good luck and happy scanner!

Eric

One can probably buy an Opensky radio, but Opensky does not operate as a traditional radio system, long story short, even with an Opensky radio you will still not be able to monitor LVMPD

Kayn is correct. even if you had the $3500.00 to shell out for an OpenSky Radio it has to be programmed in order to operate. Metro is not going to do that for you.

Also, since all Open Sky Radio's are IP based, Metro (Radio Techs & Maybe even Dispatch) also knows when a radio is turned on or off, and if not authorized, or even compromised, the radio can be disabled.

You'll just need to wait for harris to license the open sky protocol to Uniden or GRE before you can affordable listen to them.

As far as elaborating on my above comment, Open Sky Radios are now in every metro vehicle (car, truck, van, motorcycle or otherwise).

All old analog radios have been pulled.

So what you are listening to is a retransmission of their digital Open Sky communications on their old VHF analog frequencies.

All they need to do is pull the plug on that and you, I, or anyone else for that matter will not be able to listen to them on a regular scanner anymore.

So enjoy it while you still can.

So things like shoplifting , theft ,fraud ,cold B&E ,suspicious person , suspicious car ,noise complaints ,alarm or other complaints are sent over radio ? Some PD like to send stuff like this by computer and keep radio for higher priority calls.

About Open Sky I will make thread on that has that has nothing to do with PD.
