As far as I can tell, NHP Las Vegas runs five channels for dispatching, LV-1, LV-2 LV-allied, and LV-3 (Rural) and LV-4, plus the tacs.

1- how are the channels/beats broken down? Where is/are the dividing lines. Used to be back in the stone age Sahara Ave was the north/south line extending west to the 15.

2-What is the allied channel for? I will take a stab and say parole and probation, Taxicab athority etc.?

3. anyone have a copy of the current radio codes?

4. I cant make sense of the unit numbers. Can any one advise what they mean?

5. Is there a Tg for Southern Command?
Thanks

They don't always keep the same talkgroup for a given area. I've heard LV2 all the way out to the Arizona border, and the dispatch had them switch to LV3. Not sure why, perhaps they were fixing the transmitters or something. Because they mix it up, just listen to all 4, and when you hear something of interest, just lock it down to that TG. I personally have the TAC channels and all 4 LV set up on my scanner.

What I've been able to figure is this...

LV-1: 95, from Kyle Canyon to Railroad Pass

LV-2: I-15 from Sloan to Apex

LV-3: 215 Beltway from 95 (Henderson) all the way around the horseshoe back across 95 to I-15 at the raceway

LV-4: All rural units (outside the Las Vegas city area, Beatty, Mesquite, State Line, etc...)

Allied: ??? I have not been able to figure that out. I'm assuming it's as you suggested, taxicab or P&P. I've deleted it from my frequencies 'cause it's just a nuisance to me.

The breakdown of these frequencies seems odd to me given that they overlap in so many places but I wasn't asked for my opinion. :)

Also recently I've noticed that they've added a H-'Hotel' in front of the unit numbers when they call out. I'm assuming that's for Highway Patrol but I'm just guessing. I know they are still using the 4-digit designator's for the units with this added 'H' so now a patrol unit (designated with a 6) is being called out at H6xxx (with the xxx being the badge or number the troopers are assigned for their career). The commercial enforcement units utilize a 7 for their callsigns.

I am new to monitoring NHP and have found it to be really weird. I am in Southern Nevada by the way. (Henderson) I am trying to listen to all sites throughout the state. It appears that some site or channel is sending computer info. I didn't know they had or used MCT's so I don't know what the noise is that I hear occationally. Since some sites use duplicate channels (17) of the total are duplicates, it creates confusion on my part ( since I am an old F*rt).
So.....is it being said that only the NV numbered sites are usefull, and allied is useless.
Give me some time to familarize myself with the NHP EDACS system and I might be able to ad usefull input to this forum.

Take care and stay safe....

what is a beat check for nhp

What beat they are in, for example in Reno Beat 1 is I-80 from the CA state line to the bowl from what I can tell. It is basically seeing where they are.

I'm in Las Vegas and have found that when you put in too many 'sites' for NHP, you miss a lot of the radio traffic for the area as the scanner is running through so many sites and frequencies. So the only site I listen to being in the Northwest (and driving with my scanner throughout the city) is the LAS VEGAS (006). I hear all the traffic finally and the only groups you need to program are:

LV-1 (US-95)
LV-2 (I-15)
LV-3 (215 Beltway)
LV-4 (Rural)
LV TAC 1
LV TAC 2
LV TAC 3

The Allied channel is more of a taxi authority or parole freq. I haven't been able to tell exactly but they do a lot of "out of the vehicle at ..." calls and that's about it. So I figure it's more of a parole thing.

The other RENO channels aren't used much down here except around New Years Eve when Reno sends a ton of units down here to help for the week. I did hear a lot of their channels during that week out here.

As for the mobile terminals in the cars, I'm not aware of the regular patrol units having those down here in Vegas. I know that the commercial enforcement units do have laptops that connect to DOT sites to check over-the-road certifications for drivers but I'm not sure if that runs through the Nevada Shared Radio System or that just uses a mobile aircard from a cell provider because they don't have them running constantly. They only turn them on when they need them.

Ever since losing LVMPD, I've switched to listening to NHP exclusively so I've managed to pick up things here and there.

what is a beat check for nhp

KF7RAY is correct.

Down here in Las Vegas, in the city they will run a "status check" on units if a unit doesn't respond to calls for a given time. They are usually so busy with traffic stops (10-6) or accidents (10-50) that they are always on the radio around the clock at some point so it's not as necessary.

But on the Rural frequency, they tend do do them more frequently (once every 30min, or once an hour?) because the units are so spread out and don't have as much radio traffic that they try to keep closer tabs on them for officer safety. And, as an example, the unit will respond with their status and location: "H-6383, code-4, US-95, 110, Clark" Meaning patrol unit [H-being Highway, 6-being a regular patrol unit and 383-being the identifier of that trooper); code-4 is ok, US-95 being the highway he's on, 110 the mile marker, and Clark the county.

Thanks for the info. I have turned on the channel block on most of the ID's in that group making it much faster to cover the main ones mentioned. I also set up priority for my Henderson Pol/ fire so I don't miss those calls.
I'm making progress with you folks help.Next step is to lock out most of the numerous sites I don't need.

Any site number beginning in 9 needs to be confirmed and if you travel to this area would you please confirm the freqencies and report back here as a submission or in the Nevada Forum. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Call signs are normally given as a letter designator (indicating Agency) then a 3-4 digit number (identifying work being done, rank, and individual).

Letter Designators:
A NHP Administrative duty

I'm gathering that LV4 includes I-15 north of Vegas? I'll be rolling into town again this week, coming from Mesquite.

Tahoekid.... May I ask where>? Ive read thru all the posts here & all I see is the 10 codes... No frequencies at all... Any help would be nice... Thanks

This post has all of the Las Vegas talkgroups used by NHP. NHP uses the Nevada Shared Radio System, 800mhz trunking.

Nevada Shared Radio System Trunking System, Various, Multi-State - Scanner Frequencies

Trunked Radio Systems - The RadioReference Wiki

800mhz analog trunking explained

The "LV" numbers mentioned above are all about NHP in Las Vegas. For instance
737 05-121 A LV 1 Las Vegas 1 (US-95) Law Dispatch

Talk group 737 maps to LV1, or Nevada Highway Patrol troopers patrolling US-95.

You need an analog-trunking capable radio to hear them.

I'm back in Vegas again this evening - drove down from Salt Lake. I noticed LV4 was being used for both I-15 and US95. I did not encounter any troopers between LV and the AZ border, but I did hear one guy chime in at MM75, though he was gone when I went by 20 minutes later. So looks like the info posted prior is correct, LV2 and LV4 for I-15 and US95. I heard troopers making stops reporting on LV4 who were in Nye and Lincoln counties - so this talkgroup covers a HUGE area.
