Pahrump is in Nye County. Nye County's trunked radio system uses VHF frequencies. This trunked system is not operating fully. If and when it is I assume talkgroups for fire will be assigned. At that point new radios that are capable of operating on that system would be obtained and those radios, just like 700/800 MHz, will be capable of operating simplex on the frequency band the trunking system is on. It is possible that some fire departments will remain on conventional radio frequencies.
The status of the Nye County trunked system is not good as is the status of the existing radio system. I think the use of the SNACC is being done because of the inadequacy of the new trunked and existing radio systems.
