Good Sunday Morning, everyone.

I just moved to Vegas from the Coachella Valley CA. I'm a new ham as of this last Fall, so I still have a ton to learn. So far I only have my Tech ticket, but that's mainly because recent life changes interrupted my studies. I plan to get my Extra ticket.

I'm 42 years old and have been working in computer technology for 21 years. I found my way into ham radio due to an interest in emcomms while living in close proximity to several major earthquake fault zones in CA. Subsequently, I learned that ham radio is a very complex and deep subject with a mind-blowing number of activities to enjoy. Getting into ham radio also made me interested in playing with electronics projects, PCBs, micro-controllers, and most recently small RC drone building and flying.

At any rate, radio was pretty dead down there, and I spent more time listening to streams from more interesting places, than I did getting involved in my old city. I'm hoping things are better here with the larger population.

I'm looking forward to connecting with local clubs.

Are there any active repeaters here, or are things pretty quiet?

73's!

here is some more info I found,
if you search:
(active amateur radio repeaters in the Las Vegas Nevada)
in the search bar at on the right hand side of the top of the site
you will find numerous threads you may be interested in reading!
also one more thing, most if not all of the 900 MHz repeaters in LV are Linked in to California and so on are closed just FYI

go by AES in Vegas west of the strip. They would have the latest info. Lived in Henderson for awhile. All I can say, is , welcome to the hobby, and WELCOME TO THE HEAT. Getting out of work at 5pm, and seeing that your rear view mirror fell off do to heat. Going out to the car and wearing gloves in the summer because the door latches are too hot. First thing you do is stop at Circle K and get a bottle of cold water, for the drive home. Houses with 3 air conditioners. Unless you drive out in the desert at night, a car wash will last a month or more. You leave a Casino, after a late dinner, and at 2 am it is still 104 and blowing dust. Going to the airport and paying for covered parking because out in the open, the car melts. Reading how the University can cook eggs on the car dash, and tinted windows, limo black reduce the heat for while. The tint installers ask do you want the front window tinted. All this, its still and exciting place, lots of attractions, and just eating at the buffets is worth it. For most of us hams, going to visit a stocking dealer is like a boy in a candy shop. Out door malls are a rareity, you park and hurry inside . Air Conditioning is your friend.
