Ok this weekend is the Red Bull Air Races at LVMS. I'm looking for freqs. Any help appreciated. All I have for LVMS was the temporary tower freq they use during NASCAR week. 126.4000 VHF AM.

Nothing to add sorry. I would expect activity on NSRS with NHP during the race. Heard more practice runs today. Rules are very tough, smoke-gate levels-pulling up before exit of gate etc' They really have to nail it perfect and fast to win. Interesting sport I'm glad they came to Las Vegas!!

Our prosecution of the Red Bull Air Race target focused on the aircraft comms, but I expect that like with similar events, they have a VHF/UHF land mobile radio system with several channels for race umpires, timing/scoring staff, safety & security, video production, etc. in-addition to whatever talk groups may have been used on the LVMS trunked system. Once we found the two primary aircraft channels, we basically just sat-back & enjoyed looking in one direction to watch them, and another direction to watch the pretty birds flying around Nellis.

The good news is that I understand they've booked LVMS for another Red Bull Air Race in 2015 & 2016, so perhaps starting next year, we (as-in more of us local radio-geeks) can devote more resources to determining & monitoring the Red Bull Air Race comms plan.

FAA Document

I know this is an old post, but the races are again upon us, and I landed here after searching for the info.

It's interesting that 737Mech found activity on
Race Control 119.8
Challenger Runway 120.5

119.8 was not included in the plan, at least according to an FAA request I found through my good friend g00gle...
Per the document https://apps.fcc.gov/els/GetAtt.html?id=166717&x=.
The plan was to use a Nellis Frequency for October 6-8 2014, does not mention what freq it was, but from October 9-13 they requested 4 frequencies, preferring the same channels as a previous year, and got this response.
--------------------------------@Paste----------------------------------
Las Vegas Red Bull Air Race is assigned following temporary frequencies at Nellis NV (lat long 36 16
18.7N/ 115 00 36.6W) on Oct 13‐19, 2015:
**
‐Frequency M120.2, Air Boss, 10 nm, 9000 feet, coordination # AS T150233.
‐Frequency M121.65, Air Boss, 10 nm, 9000 feet, coordination # AS T150236.
‐Frequency M126.4, Air Boss, 10 nm, 9000 feet, coordination # AS T150234.
‐Frequency M134.7, Air Boss, 10 nm, 9000 feet, coordination # AS T150235.
**
M121.05 cannot work this year for this event because M121.05 has been assigned to Palm Springs
special event.**I engineered M121.65 to replace M121.05.
---------------------END Paste--------------------------

I'm not quite sure an email string for LVMS is attached to a memorandum about the Fort Worth Texas show, but it does list 119.8 as being approved by the FAA,

-------------@Paste--------------
Coordination Number Frequency
AS T150237 119.800 MHZ
AS T150238 120.500 MHZ
AS T150239 121.025 MHZ
-------------END Paste-----------

Does anybody happen to have any other info for this weekend? I plan to listen in for most of the event and attend maybe a couple of hours on saturday.

Thanks guys, either they've wrapped up for the day or I'm just out of range. I plan to listen in for most of it and spend a couple hours there, most likely tomorrow hopefully spanning the helicopter side show. I will keep checking, if they have to coordinate with Mexico then surely north Las Vegas should be no problem....

When I left the area around 3:45PM someone was still up flying the course & two Red Bull helicopters were up shooting video.

120.200 was the best freq for race stuff. 121.650 was just used for controlling take-offs & landings plus ramp control for their makeshift runway S of the course (inside the LVMS perimeter, along Las Vegas Blvd) & Nellis ATC was mostly reminding other aircraft in their airspace about the aerobatic aircraft over LVMS plus talking to the two Red Bull helos, since at times they were hovering a couple thousand feet up above the LVMS.

It was cool to look left & see F-22s ("RAPTR ##" callsign) or F-15s ("HOOTR" flight) & hear them on 327.0MHz, then look to the right & see the Red Bull event aerobatic aircraft on their course, & talking on their freqs.

By the way, the old FAA freq coordination data is meaningless, as the freq coordination takes into account geography, altitude, time, etc. so what was used in one area at one time isn't necessarily going to be used again or in another area.
