On Thursday 12/14 see Union pacific railroad police in Las Vegas, south end of the strip. Does anyone know what frequency they use, the regular rail frequency or do they have a different frequency.

UPRRPD is typically dispatched off of cellphones. They have access to all regular rail channels, and if actively operating will be on local road or yard channels.

Depending on location and involvement - they may have access to local law enforcement radio systems.

You will see quite a bit of listings showing 160.205? as RRPD channels, but in contemporary use, not really used or allocated. Back in the day in major metro operations it was quite possible, but with cellphones and other means, not so much. Not to say it isn't used, but all the RR cops that I have spoken with didn't know anything about it in our patrol zone (CSX, Amtrak, other local RR's that had PD's).

The frequency is actually 161.2050 which is known as the railroad police mutual aid channel. All RR cops have access to this channel but I have never heard anything on it !

The UPD in Reno use the road channel and apparently they have an aircard with a laptop to log into the UP website too.

They definitely have radios and portable radios, seen an officer walking in a fast food restaurant when I was walking out right near the railroad tracks, didn't pay too much attention but the portable has a screen and buttons on the front, and have what looks like a vhf antenna on the vehicle with a large base on it.

Usually cops carry and use radios :)

They are issued the Kenwood 2180 or NX210 portables and the same for the mobiles.

In areas which they have mutual aid agreements with local police they may have radios that support it (trunked radios, etc).
