An interesting occurrence I observed while monitoring the P25 system. For the last few days reception is hit or miss. Tried reviewing the modulation settings, which have been set on AUTO 8 for the last few years.
Today I noticed while scanning the readings are jumping around but 7 seems to be the magic number for better but not perfect reception. Having to also find the magic length with the back of set antenna. BTW the scanner is in the same physical location.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

Simulcast systems will fluctuate like that all of the time - change in seasons, weather, leaves on the trees... Could even be some tweaking by the techs adjusting timing of the signals, beam patterns....

Over the years, I've parked a radio in a spot in the house and it will work fine for a while -- days maybe weeks - but regardless of system, over time, I'd find myself constantly making adjustments - even if only moving the radio a couple of inches in one direction or another.

It's really amazing how sensitive (?) these scanners are, I've had good luck with the x36HP's up until a couple of months ago, now there driving me crazy.

I see you have a G5 Unification. Do you use that on the simulcast P25 systems? I have heard on this forum some mention the clarity.

Used the G5 in central Maryland (aka "simulcast hell") just prior to my summer move to NC. Awesome for simulcast... nothing special on non-simulcast.

And here is the reaction of a new G5 user in Frederick Maryland this week upon getting his Unication working....

More to consider!!!!!

Antenna Adjustment

Today I found the listening to Somerset County P25 with a modified antenna adjustment. Adjusted antenna from 12" to 7". All Regions coms loud and clear? Go figure! Over modulation? Why?
