BIA Police Freqs?

Anyone have a clue what freqs are being used by BIA Police?

I saw some Northern Pueblo Agency guys, and one was carrying a RACAL VHF portable (APCO-25?)

One addition to Dave's post. Tesuque uses 153.8. This is an old Santa Fe county fire frequency according to the FCC.

Pojoaque often says "go to 2". I have damn near killed myself trying to track down what this frequency is. Anybody know what it is?

I took a road trip to Taos today to check things out. Never been there before, and of course I took the scanner along!

I've been listening to 172.75 for the Northern Pueblos during the day for the last week and haven't heard a peep. Today, Saturday, I heard what sounds like Forestry related stuff. (The radioreference data does say it is for Forestry.)

In the Tesuque, Nambe, Pojoaque, San Ildelfonso area, BIA is on the Pojoaque PD freqs and is dispatched by Pojoaque. Their main channel output is on 154.725. I think that they have unit numbers of the form 11xx.

I listen to 154.725 pl 110.9 all the time when I'm in the area. I've only heard "Pojoaque" units and base ID. No hint of BIA police. I'll have to pay more attention to listen for 11xx units.

I've just recently started listening to Tesuque PD on 153.8 pl 100.0. It must be "narrow-band" 'cause it's really low in volume compared to others. Last week I heard a Pojoaque PD unit say he was switching to the Tesuque channel and he showed up here.

I quite often hear a lot of informal traffic on 155.55 pl 127.3 when I'm in the area between Los Alamos and Santa Fe. I don't know who they are. Maybe them? I often hear other agencies say to "go to channel 2" or "go to car-to-car" and they show up here. Another trick is to use the repeater input frequency without the pl tone as a simplex channel (in this case, 155.91). Most folks won't think to look there, and without the right tone, they don't go through the repeater. Radioreference also lists 155.1525 as a freq for Pojoaque Police. I've tried listening to it, but without knowing what pl tone is used, if any, it is too close to Sandoval County Fire on 155.145 that I just get bleedover to listen very long.

I've heard what I think is Santa Clara Pueblo Fire on 153.83 pl 146.2 and Santa Clara Pueblo Police on 155.8575 pl 110.9. They must be "narrow-band" too. The narrowband stuff is a pain because of the difference in volume compared to the other agencies in the area.

Well, thanks again, and I'll keep looking. I'll be keeping the road between Santa Fe and Los Alamos warm again next week.

Try listening on the input for 154.725 when the go to channel 2. (I forget what it is off the top of my head and I don't have my list in front of me. I don't think it's listed in the DB. Before the flame war gets going, keep in mind that I did not design the radio system

Chimayo FD uses 153.800 as a tactical frequency. They use PL 156.7

155.550 is State Police Car to Car. The traffic can be very informal. A lot of 10-10 planning goes on on this channel. 155.1525 is intended to be a repeater output for BIA. It was causing a lot of interference to the SAR channel on 155.160. It is supposed to be a narrow band channel, but was not programmed correctly. They haven't been using it much until they get things worked out correctly.

If your scanner has NFM mode, you can try using that for the narrow band channels. I'm not actually convinced that the channels are narrow band. I have listened to them in NFM mode on my scanner and they are still quite. It could be a pre-emphasis/de-emphasis setting is wrong in the repeater or the deviation is incorrectly adjusted. Since the Tesuque PD mostly listens to themselves, they just turn the volume up.

Here is what I am fairly sure of.

155.55
154.725 (not repeater)
155.91
forestry freqs
santa clara freqs

are not the Channel 2 of Pojoaque. I have these in the scanner and have been driving through the area when they say "go to 2" and never heard a peep. Thus began my obsession of figuring out "ch.2".

The 155.1525 had a very short life last year or was it 2 years ago? It became the new Pojoaque main channel and 154.725 was called "BIA".

I actually heard the transmission of the dispatcher telling all units to cease on that 155.1525 channel because Sandoval County was on a land line screaming at them for bleeding over into their system.

So here are 2 possibilities that people could check if they cruise the area a lot.

Cities of Gold has about 8 freqs assigned to them. Some are high power and go through a repeater up on the hill above the Casino. According to the FCC page they are mailed to the "Chief of Police". I have never heard squat...but it is worth a try.

The other possibility is that the BIA has given Pojoaque a freq to use since they often dispatch BIA units (11xx). So scanning 160-173 may be a possibility.

AllI know for sure is that I have spent many moons trying to track this down and have failed. 6 pack of beer to whoever can figure it out.

I remember the fiasco between Pojoaque and Sandoval county. From what I heard, the 155.1525 frequency was only licensed for 30 watts out, and they were running it at 110 watts out, causing interference to one of the Sandoval County Freq's.

Oh....and I "THINK" that the BIA freq is/was 156.015. not sure if they are still using that or not. I would imagine that they have the ability to get on any of the local Pueblo frequencies, kind of how State Police units get on local county freq's to communicate.
