What scanner to buy

Hello all

I am relatively new to this and want to upgrade from an old Bearcat that just dosent cut it any longer.
Looking for a hand held and would like a good versatile scanner that I wont grow out of to quick.
I want to buy the right one the first time, I would rather deal with the learning curve then to buy
and be disappointed. My old scanner isn't digital and not capable of receiving much.
Is there anyone out there that might point me towards a good scanner.
I have been considering the new Uniden BCD396XT can I do better???

The 396XT is just out on the market; there are several others that will handle the digital stuff that Michigan has. I'd jump down to the Michigan forum, let folks know where you are (what county will do nicely) and they'll have lots of information to choose from. Let local users guide you The Scan Michigan Yahoo group (link below) is another source of information. You can't have too many sources of info in this game.
