Newbie looking to make the right purchase

I am in Sussex county Delaware. From what I can tell most of what I want to listen to state police and Seaford pd needs p25 phase 1 or 2. For a week I have been looking at so many scanners which makes me more confused. I have about 500 to spend and think I want a hand held. Any help making my choice would be great full. One thing I don't want to is to get something to have to replace it due to outdated if that makes sense

I would suggest the BCD436HP (Handheld) or BCD536HP (Base/Mobile). They are the most recent Uniden scanners and the only ones that can receive GE ProVoice (+$50 Add-On) and DMR (+$50 Introductory Price Add-On). See DigitalMobileRadioUpgrade < UnidenMan4 < TWiki

Lots of choices out there, especially with the new Whistler TRX-1 and 2. I have most all of them. But if your looking for one, I highly second Dave's (K4EET) advice. The 436HP and 536HP continue to be the best scanners I have ever owned. It will probably be a long time before those units are outdated

The Uniden 396XT is still an excellent digital scanner. If you can find one..
