Welp I do not know what frequency the FDNY fireground is. I’m in Staten Island and not sure what frequency they use I have tried all of them that I know of and none seem to work. I pull up app that has a FDNY DARS and heard it but I have a radio and there’s no need to use my phone when I can use my radio.

First question is what frequency does the FDNY in Staten Island use as a fireground?

Second would I ha e to be one scene for me to hear them?

No. If they are on a simplex frequency and not using a repeater, you will never hear traffic unless you are close to the scene.

Most fireground comms are going to be radio to radio and those are most likely to be handheld radios. At s max output of 5 watts, you would have to be within a 1 to 2 mile radius. And that's pushing it for a handheld in an urban or city area. If....and this is a big if, they are relaying their fireground traffic through a mobile VRS to dispatch, you could possibly hear them from a greater distance. You would need to find the VRS frequency being used, if one is used at all.
