Hi radio gurus and fans

My question might be naive to some, but I must ask.

In the past I tried random wire and those reel antennas, but they don't seem to work that great. All I get is noise even when turning off my computers and other electronics near me.

I was thinking like ten feet copper wire for each side and the feedline will be a coax cable with no balun to connect to a portable SW radio.

Before I spend money on theses parts, I want your experience and feedback if this can work. Thanks

Welcome to the forum! Tell us what the make/model of your portable SW receiver is. It would also be helpful to know what floor your apartment is on, and the type of siding your building has.

I don't think a dipole will help. I'd suggest a loop antenna with a preamplifier. They can do quite well indoors and are very good at dealing with noise.
