Is the NYC N.O.A.A. Down? 162.550mhz or am I the only one not picking them up

Although it's not listed at NOAA Weather Radio Outages

A side note here is NOAA's radar (KENX) at Albany is down due to major hardware failure until some time in August.

I noticed it as well and thought they're was something wrong with my radio. Kinda scary to think its down being that this heat wave has been pretty hectic for the tristate area with power outages and alike.

Agreed. Not good. I can report that the Albany NOAA radio is online, but that was the first I hard about the radar being down.

Hopefully they get up and running soon, supposedly we are due for some storms this week. I understand the radar being down is an hardware issue but is anyone aware what happened to the 550 transmitter at upton, NY? Was it weather or power related? Or something else?

Take a look at Wx Warning by N3FJP (The same guy who makes the popular Field Day Logging Software).

It uses the NOAA RSS Feeds and formats the information into a GUI, with audio warning when a warning comes in. The software used to be 100% free, but it is now free with banners or a small fee to have them removed.

I've been using the software for years, and it works great, especially when there are multiple severe storm warnings, and issues are constantly being extended or closed early.

That should help you guys stay up to date while 162.550 is OOS.

Just an open carrier. no speaking or anything. I was tuned in approx 1 hour ago and was transmitting properly, so this development is within that time frame.

The latest from NWS in Upton, NY is that KWO35 on 162.550 is causing some interference to USCG freqs and is off the air until the situation is resolved.
