I have a BC370CRS and need help determining if this is compatible with VIPER in Wake County. Primarily I would like to listen to Fire/EMS and Garner PD. Any opinions?

Will I need an external antenna?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey Ron,
Welcome to Radioreference.com.
I have some bad news for you. Most of Wake County (including Garner PD and Fire/EMS) operate in a digital format on the State of NC VIPER system.
You need a digital capable trunking scanner to be able to monitor the above communications. Unfortunately the BC370CRS is not digital nor a trunking scanner. On a positive note you can monitor the Fire & EMS VHF dispatch alert channels but you will not be able to monitor on scene comms as those take place on the VIPER system.
The 3 VHF Alert Frequencies are:
154.370Mhz= Raleigh Fire Dept Alert
154.190Mhz= Wake Fire Depts Alert
156.225Mhz= Wake EMS Alert.
You will hear the automated "Locution" alert dispatches on the above frequencies.
Sorry I could not give you better news!
Happy Monitoring
