Is the city of New Bern still using the Motorola Type I trunk system, or have they migrated to VIPER? I was in the area last month on the way to Atlantic Beach; heard absolutely nothing. Another thing I noticed here the RRDB was the fleet map was all 4's. Is that right?

Jb2c would probably know for sure, but I THINK that they are still on their analog system.
He's new, but I think if you Give Jb2c a week or two to program his scanner, then shoot him a PM and find out.

Marshall KE4ZNR would probably know too.

Sincerely

I was over there yesterday of Mumfest and made a point to check the system. I used 2 scanners and heard nothing in 5 hours. The control channels are still there but that's it. No voice. What' the likely hood that they are on Viper?

Wirelessly posted (SAMSUNG-SGH-T459/T459UVIA1 NetFront/3.4 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

I'm glad someone else duplicated my results. Now if someone can confirm our assumptions!

When I was over there Saturday, I did a quick search for any other control channels on 800 and VHF as well as UHF and found nothing. That leads me to believe they are on Viper. Did not see any cars so I could see what kind of antennas they were using. Did not even think about Viper usage at the time.

New Bern has gone to a digital P25 system

I live in New Bern and I'm new to scanning. Last month I purchased a Uniden BCD996XT scanner. I joined RadioReference.com and downloaded the frequencies into my scanner. I wasn't receiving New Bern and I had heard they had changed their radio system to digital. Apparently they kept the same frequencies they were using with the previous Motorolla system. I kept the same frequencies and changed the system type to P25 standard trunk and it appears I'm picking up everything. I now receive the NB police, fire and NB government channels. I hope this helps someone.

Good catch KK4lsp. Yeah see if you can capture some talkgroup IDs. I'll see if I can get over there soon with Unitrunker and see what's going on. In the mean time, do you have 440 capability on your ham equipment?

Well at least we now know its a P25 System and we appreciate those TGID's and its a start but we need to be a little more precise, so they can be added to the Database and added in the proper channel by clicking the submit button at the top. Also we will need the Control Channel's if possible so we can start this new system.

I looked up the frequencies in the FCC Site and found the following frequencies. Most are the same in the old system but there are a couple that are different.
So if anyone else can start helping on mapping out this system it will appreciated.

Below are the frequencies you will need to enter as a P25 System.

854.0625
856.2625
856.7375
857.2625
857.7375
858.2625
858.7375
859.2625
859.5125
859.7375
860.7375
860.9875

When I was through there last week end, 859.2625 was the active control channel. I had my PSR 500 with me set to Wildcard but did not think to have it set to P25. Will get back over there as soon as I can with Unitrunker although it might be a week or 2.
Thanks to KK4LSP for getting us on the right track. If I still lived over there I would have had this one figured out by now.

If anyone wants to listen in to my scanner, I'm running ProScan software with the web server and Remote Scanner over IP durring the days fro 9:00AM to 11:30PM. My server IP is 208.180.158.101 and I use port 5001 for the Remote Scanner over IP and port 5000 for the web server. If you don't have the ProScan software, you can get the free ProScan client at http://www.proscan.org/ProScan_Client_6_2.zip. Or you can point your browser to
http://208.180.158.101:5000/. If anyone wants to play with it or tweak the programming, they can have at it. Just PM me and I'll be glad to give you the password. The scanner is a Uniden BCD996XT and it's connected to a discone antenna which is in my attic in my home on Neuse Blvd. in New Bern. BTW- I eventually plan to keep the scanner server running 24 hours a day but for now I just keep it on durring the day.

I recall reading somewhere a year or so ago that New Bern went with Harris for the upgrade to a P25 system. I was there today and was able to run Pro96Com for about 15 minutes or so and this is what it came up with:

System and Site Information

System ID 056
Tower 101
WACN 59B2D

Frequencies

854.0625 Alternate CC/Voice
856.2625 Voice
856.5625 Alternate CC/Voice
857.2625 Alternate CC/Voice
857.7375 Control Channel
858.2625 Alternate CC/Voice
858.7375 Voice
859.5125 Alternate CC/Voice

I had some conflicting information on the Band Plan. My 996XT showed it to be Base 854.000 with a 12.5 offset. Pro96Com showed 854.000 with a 6.25 offset. I'm doing the Band Plan from memory so I may have that part wrong, but at least it should give somebody a starting point to play with when monitoring the system.

As far as talkgroups go, I did not spend that much time trying to nail them down but I can confirm that
200 is Police Dispatch.

My location where I did this at was the Walmart parking lot on US 17 just south of the US 70 overpass. I could barely pick it up at all on 996XT with a fender-mounted Larsen Tri-Band antenna but got full bars on my 396XT with a stubby antenna. In fact, the 396XT inside the vehicle received the system a good ways down towards Havelock. I think my 996XT mounted inside the vehicle needs some settings tweaked for it to work but I only pass through there a couple of times a year so, again, maybe someone else can take what I found today and run with it.

I live in New Bern and would be very interested in the latest changes and updates to our system. I am trying to learn how to program (On my own) my many Uniden Digital Trunking Scanners. Some were very easy like the Uniden Home Patrol. for the others....BCD996XT, BCD396XT, BC785D I am still learning how. I have ProScan, FreeScan and ARC250 Software (Licensed Download).
