Hello all,

There will be multiple Amateur Radio High Altitude Balloons flying around the NW Ohio area this weekend. Three launches are scheduled for tomorrow 10:00 AM Saturday morning. The Taylor University Balloon (usually launches from NE Indiana and floats into NW Ohio) carries a Cross-band Repeater (144.36 MHz uplink and 446.025 MHz downlink). A high altitude balloon at 100,000 feet can often provide radio coverage ranges of upwards of 500 miles. If you're farther away from the balloon, a directional/handheld antenna is helpful for pointing it toward the balloon.

There will also be a dual launch from Wyandot Airport in Upper Sandusky (sponsored by Surfing Satellites and NASA Glenn Explorer Post). Those two balloons will just have APRS tracking equipment, and balloon positions should be visible on 144.39 MHz as well as their dedicated downlink frequencies if you can receive those directly. Taylor University also has a launch listed for tonight at 7:30 PM but they did not have any other details for that flight.

Head on over to the Amateur Radio High Altitude Ballooning website for more details:
