It seems that the MARCS Dibble rd site in Mercer co has come to a standstill, its about 4 sections up in the air so far. The Celina Daily standard had a legal notice wanting statements of the effect on Historical and on Cultural sites in the project area. There was an issue recently with the height of a ethanol plant that was going to build in the same township, and a group of people filed all kinds of court injunctions reference to it and got it stalled due to the height and waste water it put off.

That sucks... so close and yet so far :( Everybody wants things to stay the way they are/were, but jeesh - when will people realize the notion of progress.

People choose to live in a certain area for various reasons. One of those reasons might be pleasant scenery. A huge tower changes that and, for them, it is a step backward, not progress.

Of course when their house is on fire and the FD doesn't have good communications because they kept a tower from going up, they will be the first to complain.

Where the site is, there is an old tower that was given to the state. The MARCS tower is kinda behind a couple of woods along a railroad track, and the old one is slated to come down. Im sure that the old tower could be used, but its my understanding that due to age and shoty work done in the past on it, it was just better to put a new one up. There are only a couple of houses near the site, and a cemetery a few hundred yards away. IMHO they picked a great spot to put it compared to the old one, and it would be much better to have the new one, than the old straight stick tower that is up there now. Kinda makes me wonder if they didn't foresee this coming and decided to leave the old one there in case it is needed. Hopefully it will all work out and they can move on with the project.
