I have the BCD966T and I like it very much although it is complicated. I used to listen to the police calls, but that was before the days of these Trunked systems. I want to listen to the Worthington PD and have been unable to receive them. I've been able to download and install many of the frequencies here on this site for Franklin County, but I'm not picking up Worthington. I do have the frequencies for the suburban police departments installed. For Worthington, I have 866.4875, 821.4875, 866.7625, 821.7625.

I live in the Hilltop area and use the FireStik MSB-RX Base station scanner antenna. The antenna is just sitting on the floor right now. Am I just too far away? Will some more height on my antenna help? Do I have the wrong frequencies?

866.4875 is the dispatch frequency for Worthington PD. This is a repeater output, really don't need the 821.4875 input frequency. Do you have the proper DSC (digital code squelch) set, i.e. DCS 114? If you have an incorrect DCS, your scanner will ignore any transmission with the correct DCS. I'm about eight miles NW of Worthington's antenna and I receive fine with a PSR-500 and supplied antenna.

Thanks for the response. I imagine I'm about 10-12 miles from the station at 6555 Worthington Galena Rd. I don't know where the tower is. I'm ignorant about this trunking stuff and I find my scanner way to complicated. I like listening, but I don't have the hours of time required to learn the radio's software or the trunking technology. I do know computers and have easily figured out the software and how to install frequencies in my scanner. I'm listening to the Columbus police and other frequencies of interest without problems. I'm thankful for the frequency lists here and the computer software and USB interface becasue I don't think I have the time to program this stuff manually.

I did get a new RG cable for the antenna recently and the scanner is stopping on the WPD 1 DISP item programmed into the scanner. I can barely hear some scratchy voices at times. It sounds like it's just out of my range. I think I will get my antenna outside and up on the side of my house and see what happens! I'll let you know if that helps!

Worthington is not a trunked system. They are conventional on all three channels.

Worthington fire does have two trunked talk-groups on the Columbus public-safety system: WOR FG and WOR EMS.

Certainly an antenna outside on the house will be much better (as long as you are using low loss coax and do things right). But, as a possible alternative, let me mention this....

IF you are using the stock antenna, almost every handheld's stock antenna is trash on 800 Mhz compared to something like the Radio Shack 800 Mhz antenna. If you don't have one, you should run out to your Radio Shack and grab one. I imagine you can probably take it back if it doesn't work good for you. But my experience has always been that in every case the Radio Shack 800 Mhz ducky works magnitudes better than any stock antenna on 800 Mhz.

Of course, reception on other bands may suffer when using the 800 Mhz antenna. So you'd have to factor that in as well.

I don't recall the part # of the Radio Shack 800 Mhz antenna off the top of my head - if somebody else does, maybe they'll post it.

He might be able to get it. It all depends on the scanner. My XTS radio picks up Delaware County's current system just fine downtown as long as I am outside. As for Worthington I can also get the repeater down there. You might try getting a better antenna for 800mhz.
