All,

Due to a recent spate of submissions requesting that primary control channels be changed in the database, it appears that there is a bit of confusion out there regarding the difference between primary and active control channels.

Typically but not necessarily always, the highest frequency control channel is the primary control channel (shown in red), while one or two others are alternate control channels (shown in blue). Generally, the primary control channel is also the active control channel.

Control channels do sometimes change, usually due to equipment maintenance or failure. However, just because the control channel has changed does not mean that the primary control channel has changed, only that the active control channel has changed.

The primary control channel at a site will always be the primary control channel, and it is not necessary to submit that the active control channel has changed unless the new frequency is not listed as an alternate control channel. Database administrators will reject any submission requesting that the primary control channel be changed, unless conclusive evidence is provided to show that the database entry is incorrect.
