Hydro One hardly uses radios these days. Everything is done by cell phones.

You'll hear crews coordinating with each other on the radio during large outages and construction but that's about it.

In brampton hydro is on the phase 1 radio system
Also Toronto is on a 900mhz phase 2 system
It all depends on the city I guess

The lo band system is used occasionally. Last week I heard traffic on 49.17 as they gave a truck directions to where the crews were working.

Several weeks ago I saw a Hydro One truck in Ottawa with what looked like a 1/4 wave VHF high-band whip.

Looked up on TAFL, find a number of high-band entries, mostly N. Ontario, and fixed stations. Not sure what's the whole story.

They are active in the Durham/Kawartha/Peterborough area, but usually during large outages. Other then that, some idle chit-chat about the days events and ATV’s taking out guide wires.

I agree.

During that bad wind/ice/sleet/rain storm in April I monitored Hydro One over a 12 hour period and heard about 5 radio calls on the Frequency that Ancaster/Flamborough uses.

Lots of outages, they must rarely use radios. Sadly Burlington hydro went unscannable on my scanners around that time as well.

I think in Southern Ontario and more urban type areas, they really don’t have a lot of need for radio comm’s when cellular is so prominent (why mess with battery charging etc when you don’t have to)
But I know up north, and I mean UP NORTH...radio is used a lot more often (line crews etc) where cellular is spotty and not existent. Definitely caveats to what I said, but generally speaking anyway.

It would still be nice if they used the radios more often. I have backup power and a generator. During an outage (rare) it would be informative to monitor the repair activities.
