Hi, I have a Uniden 346XT scanner. I purchased it used, and wanted it to listen to TTC, as well as Toronto Fire. Since purchasing the unit, i've been overwhelmed by the knowledge...and complexities of the radio. Since the purchase...I found out that most of the city radio traffic is now P25 II...and this radio won't work. We live very close to a TTC yard (subway yard) and are very close to a fire station (and the Danforth).

Can someone provide me with some assistance (or program this puppy?). I would love to be able to turn it on...and have some voices coming from it...instead of static and electronic sounds periodically. My wife was apprehensive when I purchased this thing....and in the past month...i've dodged the bullet with making it work....

Any ideas? Please?

Have you tried Freescan for programming? It will make your programming much easier. http://www.sixspotsoftware.com/products/freescan

First, the bad news. That is an analog scanner. Toronto Fire will be a no go since it is P25.

The good news is that the TTC is still monitorable at this time.

There is a way to run signals through software to listen to P25 Phase I with that scanner. The scanner will need some invasive modification and you will have to use an audio cable to your computer to accomplish this.

Public safety uses P25 Phase I. Ambulance and fire are monitorable. TTC is migrating to TETRA, also monitorable. Your distance to yards or firehalls is not really relevant. You'd be best served by an inexpensive SDR dongle or two and free/cheap software.
