I just got the 2035 and I can side by side with my 2042. Mostly the same green vs yellow display. Black vs gray buttons. As you can see in pic my 536 is missing out for repair. I really like these rs scanners, the 2035 and 2042 are quite nice on milair uhf 225-400. My plan is to box the 2035 for remote site ops. I will post pics of that setup later.

Very nice scanners! I've owned both, but at separate time during my scanner years. I could never tell any difference in performance. They're built very well.

What are you mounting your other scanner in? It's hard to tell from the picture. It almost looks like a (wide) computer tower? Nice setup!

My setup

The hole you see below my bct-15 is for the 536hp. The box holds a Pro-2051/Bct-15 /BCD536HP and power supply. It's a repurposed Motorola repeater box that used to have two cdm 750's and a repeater controller. I also replaced the fan for a nice quiet blue led version. The 2035 is heading to a ammo can type setup for when I go remote. It should be cool. I'll post pics of that when it's done.

Tap mod 2042

Actually the 2042 was used when I bought it and I quickly discovered the previous owner had turned the front headset port into a tap. So that's good to go. Carrier light? Not sure if I need that?

It depends on how many scanners you run at one time. I have 7. The 2042 is used for military and civil air monitoring. I like the Carrier On Indicator light because it lets me keep the 2042 on low volume until the squelch breaks and I see the light go on indicating activity. A visual signal indicator.

At one time, I had six PRO-2035's and two PRO-2042's.

They worked very well.
I still have two of them in use, but gave away the others when I started using Uniden DMA scanners.

I upgraded all of them with European processor chips I bought from the UK.
That gave me full coverage back again..

LED mod

Carrier LED? What's needed is it simple to do? I looked it up and the results I find are for a different model scanner? Any specific 2035/2042 pics out there? Anyone willing to pull the top off and take a pic to show me?

Pin 4/13?

I opened the scanner, the diagram is easy to understand. Thanks! One question, I see the IC chip TK10420 and other posts about the mod call out using pin 13? Your diagram says pin 4. Which is correct?

Ok Here we go....

Its been quite a few years since I did this mod and this is only the second time I've ever popped the hood on my baby...

Pic#1. Shows pin #13. (The reference to pin 4 was for Uniden scanners.)
Pic#2. Shows how I mounted the perf board to the scanner.
Pic#3.Shows the back side of the LED, mounted where the headphone jack once was.

Part numbers

OBTW Fry's carries the product line "NTE" and the 2n3904 cross references to NTE123AP. That's what I used.

Nice job.

Looks nice! I almost went with that same style light but the bulb sticks out a little too much for my taste. I was afraid it would get bumped by something and break. That's why I used one that is recessed with a metal housing.
