Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I picked up a new in box 7180HK with the remote head install kit recently. Part of my setup was to use the optional DTMF mic for the extra functions option. I noticed straight away that while all the functions worked properly and the radio performs very well. The backlight for the mic does not work. I plugged it into other 7180HK's as well as a 7360 and 7160 and it worked. Anyone had an issue like this and could it be related to the remote head kit as this is the only radio in the fleet installed this way.

Check Pin 1 on the microphone RJ-45 jack on the control head. That's the source of the mic backlight.

Try removing KRK-10 and reconnecting the control head directly to the radio and see if that fixes it.

There was an issue with some early KRK-10's that one of the internal connectors was installed backwards, but I think that resulted in the control head not functioning at all.

If the control head backlight is working with the remote head KRK-10 installed, I'm going to lean towards the issue being in the control head. Mic backlight isn't a function that's passed all the way through from the radio deck. It's handled inside the control head.
