• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi guys
I am looking at a Radius M1225 for the local fire department...power supply on the bench is a 30 amp Astron switcher... 95% of the time, there is no TX audio or power out...the other 4% of the time, there is 40 watts out with a wicked hum on the signal and almost a 10 amp draw (the analog meter on the Astron is not very accurate)...1% of the time (I saw it one time) there was a current draw and no TX... it is not the mic for two reasons... we swapped mics with a known good plus when it is not working and we change the channel to a non-TX channel (like weather) we get the obligatory noise that tells you TX is inhibited... for comparison, I have my trusty Yaesu FT-8800 hooked up next to it, same cables same power supply, set to same power level, nice clean TX audio..
I am looking at it on my service monitor when it does TX, the wave form looks terrible... trying to get a picture of it (my service monitor is an old HP 8924E with no screen capture) but when I am set up to take a picture it does not TX!
unmodulated the waveform from the Yaesu is very nice, smooth beautiful...On the Radius, you can't tell the difference between modulated and unmodulated; the waveform looks about the same with the distortion...
JUST GOT IT TO TX...I am attaching pics... both are UNMODULATED; the one on 147MHZ is the Yaesu on our local repeater input; the other is the Radius on the local fire frequency...

Just looking for a little guidance before we send it away for service...That is probably what will happen...
Has anyone seen this before and can offer some advice?

Thanks so much es cul

Send it away for service? that thing needs to be replaced.
I think you're on to something there... :)

M1225's are priced $100 to $200 on the used market and I suspect the actual selling price for most of them is $100 to $125, regardless of features.

*IF* Motorola still works on these radios, it will probably cost well in excess of $200 to fix it.

IMHO, it's time for a replacement, especially since this radio is used in the fire service. Sell it as a tech special to a ham somewhere and replace it. If they insist on another M1225, snag one off the bay. If not, you can pick a nearly new CM300 with all the same features for around $200. CDM prices are similar or even less.

1225's are long since out of service. You can no longer get parts for them. The CM/PM line is still under support but out of sale. I was buying PM400's for less than $100 a piece last time I bought.
