Update 12/26/15
System up-date 12/26
Very slow adding mobiles, especially on the fire side. Most
police and EMS units now have mobiles. I think completion will be months
at this rate of deployment.
Almost passed out this morning when I saw a local police
car in the parking lot. The 800 Mhz, 1/4 whip is mounted
on a lip bracket on the trunk. The former VHF-L NMO hole in
the center of the roof now has a rubber plug. "Gotta be kidding"
This system has great coverage but the audio stinks. Most of us
locals have dubbed it the "Soup can" after the soup can with a
string stretched between. The audio has no lows and very few
mid range components. It sounds that way on my scanners and a
hand held operating on the system.
Multiple patches and straps are still in place, but the audio
is so poor, most are unusable.
More testing this week on the new paging frequency. The simulcast
distortion is severe in many areas and sounds like it could be
a big problem. They have a CW id'er every half hour but the distortion
is so severe that I have yet to hear a clear, undistorted id from
multiple locations. Unknown if any new pagers have been issued yet.
Many radio's still inactive or missing from the list of users.
Updating the TG list has been slow and difficult.
Many end users still wondering all over the place while exploring
their new toys and many having problems adjusting to the talk group
mode of operation.
Gettysburg Hospital has been on from the start and receiving info
from in bound ambulances. I have yet to hear Hanover Hospital
on the system. Their radio ID, 346001 and 346002 shows up everyday
on Unitrunker but is always rejected by the system. This has been occurring
for over two weeks and still not operational.
More excitement later
