First off, first post, hope to be here more frequently. I've recently gotten into scanning the bands(but have been a ham for several years). So, earlier, I was scanning around on my old Alinco dual band and somewhere around 142.900, I picked up an AM weather station. I got some of the weather(kind of like area), but I couldn't make out the area due to it being scratchy, though I'd have sworn I heard "Hayes County" out of it. Only identifier I could get was, "Radio Information Juliet." Am I to presume it's possibly a military station or something else.

I suspect what you are receiving is an IF image of airport ATIS(air traffic information service).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superheterodyne_receiver

^^ you can read about image frequency in the above article.

So essentially I believe you are hearing an AM air station at an airport bleeding through your radio which is
receiving it in the "wrong" place.

Ah, OK, that might explain it. Thanks. :) Just seemed a bit odd hearing it.
