Odd circumstance in my logs from yesterday at 1500 - two EPS 421xxxx radios (4212195 and 4219142) transmitting (encrypted) on 2990, which I have logged as an RCMP (444) talkgroup.

404: Agency Not Found?

Any thoughts on agency 404? Government I presume, of course. Some use in Cochrane and area over the past few days. TGs include 4046 and 4053 (and I presume others in between). Conversations not descriptive enough to determine user or purpose.

Any thoughts on this? Callsigns recently heard were 6098 and EO8205.

I wondering if it's Alberta Parks. They tested on a few groups near 482 a year and a half ago. Wondering if the Echo Oscar call sign is Edmonton Office. RCMP K Div use the callsign EO for the front desk and building security. There are a number of parks in the Cochrane area.

FYI, Fort McMurray RCMP, Alberta Sheriff and Wood Buffalo By-law I believe have all switched to AFRS and are totally encrypted. I've tried monitoring them with BCD 436, unitrunker with DSDplus and 2 RTL and a Uniden home patrol. unitrunker says its a P4 in the SVC column and the 436 says enc when they talk? if anyone knows anything different please let me know

From what I can tell they have moved to the AFRRCS network and you can't listen to them the communication is 100% encrypted. before the switch, they were on A2 155.820 now they are gone!

The old RCMP K DIv. network is still up and working from Edmonton to approx. Redwater. From Boyle to Fort McMurray I hear nothing.....:)

Actually A3 in Lac La Biche is now talk group 2759.

Not to distrust you but I'm curious: Is A3 in LLB actually 2759, or is it just that the primary talk channel in LLB happens to be 2759 (and the primary talk channel on PACS for that area was A3)? In other words, is A3 patched to 2759?

That makes a difference for those of us who are keeping an eye on PACS channels wondering if we should be watching for patching/simulcasting of PACS onto AFRRCS or vice versa.

2743 is Ft. Mac, 2739 Ft Chip and 2732 is Demarais.

AFAIK there is no simulcast between PACS and AFRRCS. A3 is the old PACS channel. I think with a group for each detachment they will not have to use three different PACS channels to cover a detachment area.

That'll definitely be gone (at least, if they do things sensibly) because the only reason to use multiple channels, IMO, was to address coverage issues - and in a trunk system, coverage is handled on a site basis not a talkgroup basis.

I thought I had heard that they were still working on getting RTT working (and color me surprised - but only mildly - that they are still using RTT on a provincewide trunk), so I'm kind of intrigued by the news of some detachments going live.
