Just thinking out loud but if I was near H-burg I'd be watching out for sites 53-57 soon. And it wouldn't surprise me if 66-70 are Philly 800 sites to watch for.

So, in the Pittsburgh area, what are the 800 MHZ frequencies going to be used for? The vhf side, in the area, at least where I'm located, which is in north Versailles, I get the Allegheny region simulcast ch full scale. Also, is DCNR supposed to go on this system as well, and will they be encrypted? And what about PennDot in the Pittsburgh area? Thanks all! I get the 800 mhz sites pretty good with my Sds100. I'm not sure how to find control channels and site affiliates like listed above. I do have DSD+ also. Can it be used to help out with these sites?

Agencies have the option of buying single band or multiband radios. PSP and some others will have multiband radios. So, they would float between to VHF and 800 sites. The 800 was chosen to supplement VHF since acquiring enough VHF spectrum was a challenge and multiband radios were becoming more common.

Yes, DCNR will be migrating at some point. I have received some reports of what was believed to be DCNR testing heard on some SW sites. Use of encryption by them remains to be seen. PennDOT will be coming online in the Pittsburgh area whenever they are able to install all the new radio gear...timeline unknown. Other state agencies will also be migrating. Each agency will be on their own timeline as funding becomes available for the agencies to purchase subscriber equipment. PSP is really the only agency fast tracking their migration.

I can't really help with the DSD+. I have only used it a few times...it bogs down my old, sad laptop that I can take mobile with me on the road, so I stopped using it.

From my sources in Harrisburg: although the State Police is abandoning Open Sky PEMA wants the system 800 MHz left in place for it's use

I wonder what the state auditor may think about keeping a failed taxpayer funded system running along side a brand new functioning taxpayer paid for system..

Correct, as every county DES, EMA, OEM, 911 centers only have access to this system at this time...

OpenSky will be online until at least 2022 at this point. Up to now, the state goal has been to move all users onto the P25 Phase 2 by that time. Only when all users are migrated will the OpenSky be taken offline. But, the cost savings estimates are all based on the system shutting down by the above date.

Pretty interesting- especially when PEMA just did a presentation to the County EMA/911 offices about switching to the P25 system.......

I've got to imagine someone at PEMA is providing bad info about keeping OpenSky or folks are misunderstanding. It makes zero sense that OpenSky would stay online longer than it has to...for multiple reasons, but chief among them the costs and the fact that it is end of life.

I would figure that eventually all the Open Scam radios in the county comm centers will be replaced with P25 units. Once everything is upgraded there is no reason to keep the Open Scam system powered up.

Lawrence Park (Erie84) has not shown as an adjacent site for any of the other Erie sites since at least 9/25. It is still on the air with a control channel of 453.975, however little to no traffic is being passed. It does not show any adjacent sites either.

I did log TG 10127 affiliate 3 times in the last few days. The other day the CC was IDing every few minutes for quite awhile then stopped.

It still shows as Lawrence Park (ERIE84) with a call sign of WRAQ833 and NAC: 940.. That call sign is for PSU Behrend but it appears to be still using the Lawrence Park tower and PSU Behrend is still active on their analog frequencies.

Caught the following encrypted transmissions on what I am assuming is the Graterford site with a NAC of 1C4...Nothing heard on the other 2 freqs listed thusfar

Frequencies don't match, but are you sure you're not getting sometihng from PECO's system?

https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=4843

The NAC and talkgroup you reported are not similar to anything else seen on the state system so far, but they are similar to PECO.

Just a thought. We don't have site NACs reported in the database for all the PECO sites, but the ones we do have are 1C0.
