Picked up VHF M7100 for cheap recently.
However, it's the high(er) power version which only comes as a remote mount configuration, due to the chances of heat buildup in a front mount configuration.
I know that converting an M7100 remote mount to a dash mount is relatively easily done (I've done it), and I'd like to make this one a front mount. It's going to be sitting on top of a desk and in the clear, so I'm really not worried about heat buildup, especially considering that it won't be transmitting a whole lot.
Harris does not recommend doing this conversion due to that heat buildup issue, but they don't actually say it can't be done. Does anybody know for sure if it can actually be done? I don't want to tear into it if there's no point; if not I'll just have to live with the radio unit on the floor under the desk and the control head on top (inconvenient, but not too much).
