I am a bit confused about the following MOSWIN talk group descriptions.

For counties, I am seeing "Sheriff Dispatch, travel, all call, etc. I am curious. Does "travel" refer to the talk group being a mobile unit?

Generally, each site has a list of what talkgroups are allowed to use the site. Many counties use several TGs in their home area, and having all those TGs available on all sites won't work. Often a deputy has to transport a prisoner to another jurisdiction. So having one "travel" channel per county makes the load easier. It also allows the "traveling" unit to not have to listen to stuff back in their county when they can't respond.

Like wbloss said, instead of the mobile corrections unit being on the main dispatch channel, he can be on the travel channel. That way the regular dispatch channel isnt being used across the whole area, taking up resources (towers, frequencies), since it is going to be active.

The travel channel will only be used when they have to give status reports, etc as they are moving along, much less traffic, in most situations.
