Whistler TRX-1 Digital
Handheld Trunking Scanner
PC Application
Release Notes
Version 3.26 - January 22, 2019

  • Updated copyright dates to include 2019.
  • Updated the NOAA Weather Radio Link.
  • Fixed a display issue on the scanlists tab where a digital (DMR/NXDN) channels were being shown as Analog.
  • Added a DelayTime column in Conventional, Talkgroup, and Radio ID imports from CSV file or Clipboard. This allows setting of the delay time in individual imported objects. Valid range is 0 to 6000 seconds. Setting the value to 0 will disable the delay option.
  • Changed the way update and skipped items when updating from the library are shown. The updated column will now only be incremented when an object is actually changed.

Version 3.25 - August 1, 2018

  • Fixed an issue where the squelch value was not being enabled when adding a conventional channel unless the squelch type was dropped down first.
  • Fixed issue where Provoice mode talkgroups on EDACS systems could not be selected or imported. While the radio cannot decode Provoice voice internally, it is possible to use the discriminator output feature of the scanner to decode the voice with a third party software application.
  • Updated the warning message when importing a system from the library that has no talkgroups defined. Systems of this type need to have the Wildcard option(s) turned on in the Import Options Screen to be monitored.
  • When importing a system with no defined talkgroups, a wildcard talkgroup object will be created during the import, regardless of the wildcard settings on the import options screen.
  • Fixed a sorting issue on the squelch column in the conventional tab.
  • Fixed an issue with copying audio files when the alpha tag of a channel is a reserved file name (i.e. PRN, AUX, COM1 through COM255). The alpha tag will now have an underscore appended to the end of the name in this scenario.
  • Include option to "Skip DMR TGID" when creating or editing a Conventional DMR frequency

Version 3.24 - May 14, 2018

  • The application, installer, and updater are now digitally signed to help reduce some of the false positive hits that some antivirus products are displaying.
  • Fixed an issue where changing the mode on a conventional object between FM and Auto or NFM and AUTO, the CTCSS/DCS/NAC values would be reset to search mode. The App will now preserve the current tone settings when changing between these modes.
  • Added a third option to the preferred import options regarding how scanlists are handled on existing objects. This option may be set separately for conventional and talkgroup objects. The Import options screen was redesigned to support this additional option.
    • Option 1 - Replace scanlists - This option will replace the scanlist memberships on any selected existing objects with the scanlists selected in the import. This is the default option.
    • Option 2 - Ignore scanlists - This option will leave the scanlist memberships of any selected existing object as they were before the import.
    • Option 3 - Merge scanlists - This option will merge any of the selected scanlists for import that are not already assigned to an existing selected object. Any scanlist memberships that were already assigned will remain.
  • Added an option to the Advanced menu to access the Import Options screen.
  • Changed the talkgroup selection process for importing from the library. Encrypted talkgroup objects are no longer treated differently during the selection process of an import. The options to lock out or not assign an encrypted talkgroup to a scanlist are still supported.
  • Fixed an issue when using the preferred import method where some talkgroups that were not selected for import were being imported.
  • Added Defaults button to the import options screen to allow an easy return to the factory default values. Please see the help file under the import tab for details on the default settings.

Version 3.23 - February 18, 2018

  • Fixed issue that could contribute to file corruption in certain circumstances.
  • Fixed a library import issue where alpha tags on conventional objects would import with only the first character of the string.
  • Fixed an issue with copying or moving audio files from the SD card to the computer where the Overwrite All button was not being honored when recordings that match those being copied already exist in the destination folder.

Version 3.22 - February 12, 2018

  • Resolved inconsistent font sizes in various lists.
  • Fixed scanlist listing on the general tab to remove the horizontal scroll bar.
  • Possible fix to extra characters being added to alpha tags when adding talkgroup and radio ID objects to a trunked system.
  • Updated the processing when deleting a talkgroup or radio ID object in the trunked systems tab to update what's happening during the process.
  • Removed the resize restriction. Lists that are resizeable will now expand based on the screen size as they did in prior versions.

Version 3.21 - February 6, 2018

  • Corrected display issues on Windows 10 PCs.
  • Corrected an issue when editing the name of a trunked system where the name would be truncated to only the first character.
  • Corrected an issue when editing the description of a V-Scanner folder where the description would be completely lost or truncated to the last line entered.

Version 3.20 - February 6, 2018

  • Upgraded the compiler used to create the application. This allowed us to increase the strength of our SSL connection to our update servers after the hosting company disabled the SSL level we were using.
  • Fixed a application crash issue with the Remove Item button on the scanlist tab where the scanlist files were not being properly rebuilt after the change.

Version 3.2 - January 20, 2017

  • Fixed a crash when populating the audio file listing when NXDN Type-D talkgroup recordings are present.
  • Added support for Lite on when Unmute option. When enabled, the backlight will come on anytime the scanner unmutes the speaker.
  • The PC App will now check to see if audio is being played back when selecting any option to copy configurations to or from the scanner's SD card. If playback is in progress, a prompt will appear to stop the playback before the SD card may be accessed.
  • Fixed issue where frequencies between 54MHz and 88MHz could not be entered in the UK bandplan if the FlexStep option was enabled.
  • Fixed issue with CPU updates when using Windows 10 and using the default Windows drivers.
  • Fixed issue with CSV/Clipboard import process for conventional objects.
  • Fixed issue with talkgroup CSV/Clipboard import where columns were not being detected when a header line was included in the import data.
  • Fixed issue with radio ID CSV/Clipboard import where columns were not being detected when a header line was included in the import data.
  • Fixed issue with radio ID CSV/Clipboard import where the scanlist options were not being decoded properly.
  • Changed what the Application looks for on the Priority, Audio Boost, Lockout, Priority, and Record fields for all CSV/Clipboard import methods. See the updated help file for details.
  • Fixed issue where the check for all updates was returning the incorrect version currently in the scanner.
  • Fixed help button positioning on the text/clipboard import screens when the window has been resized.

Version 3.1 - December 16, 2016

  • Changed handling of NXDN Type-D talkgroup imports to handle a change in the library format starting with version 5.01.
  • Fixed issue with importing the incorrect RAN values on conventional channels with a value higher than 15
  • Fixed issue on NXDN trunked sites where a RAN value higher than 15 was not being properly stored.

Version 3.00 - December 15, 2016

  • Added support for NXDN trunked and conventional systems.
  • Proper import of a system with an unknown RAN value requires library database version 499 or higher.
  • Added support for NXDN to conventional CSV/Clipboard import.
    • The Mode column will accept a value of NXDN, NEXEDGE, IDAS, NXDN48, or NXDN96 as valid NXDN options.
    • Added NXDN RAN column. Valid values are 0-63. A blank entry or an asterisk (*) will be accepted as a wildcard (Any) entry.
  • When importing NXDN trunking systems, there is currently limited indication in the data provided by RadioReference.com to determine if the system is a Type C or Type D system. Therefore most systems will appear as Type C systems until this issue can be corrected. As a result, some Type D systems may import with incorrect talkgroup IDs at this time.
  • Added "Record" column to text import for conventional channels, talkgroups, and radio IDs.
  • Changed the USA band plan in the 450-470MHz range to allow 3.125KHz steps.
  • Added the frequency range of 178.00000 MHz - 220.00000MHz to the UK band plan.
  • Removed the second entry for talkgroup ID and Radio ID on the recordings screen. These entries were confusing and generally did not contain useful information.
  • Fixed issue with DMR import from the library where the color codes were being assigned to the incorrect frequencies on trunked systems.
  • Fixed issue where blank records could be imported if extra lines were present in the CSV or Clipboard data.
  • Fixed issue where deleting conventional objects would take a very long time when a large number of conventional objects were present in the configuration.
  • Sites on P25, DMR, and NXDN Systems will now be set to NFM on import.
  • Fixed issue when setting NAC Search squelch mode on multiple selected conventional channels in the conventional tab.
  • Fixed issue when modifying squelch settings on Multiple selected conventional DMR channels.
  • Fixed an issue where clicking on the trunked system type on a Project 25 system, but not actually changing the type would cause a selected site to be switched from Auto Fill or Custom to Standard mode.

Version 2.16 - October 7, 2016

  • Corrected issue when importing conventional DMR channels from the library where talkgroups above 65535 were not being properly imported.
  • Corrected an issue when importing talkgroup and radio ID objects into trunked system ID 000000 from the clipboard or a CSV text file. This issue did not affect other system IDs.

Version 2.15 - September 26, 2016

  • Corrected issue where the VHF UK band plan limits were not correct when the FlexStep option was enabled.

Version 2.14 - September 23, 2016

  • Corrected issue where the row numbers were not appearing after recent Windows updates on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.
  • Updated UK Band plan to extend VHF frequency range to 178MHZ and UHF frequency range to 512MHz.
  • Removed "Copy only changed files" option from the V-Scanner folder select screen. Use of this option could cause fragmentation of the SD card and files that were not in sync with each other. This could result in unexpected behavior and slow response in the scanner. For best speed, it is recommended that a SD card reader be used to read or write data to the scanner's SD card.
  • Fixed issue when setting DAC Gain and ADC Gain in the PC Application not matching the scanner values. (Note: CPU Firmware update may be required to completely resolve this issue)
  • Fixed issue when editing a conventional object where setting that object to DMR mode was not being set properly.
  • Added option to set the maximum number of channels to be checked during a priority check cycle.

Version 2.13 - August 16, 2016

  • Fixed issue with the update from Library function on conventional objects that use DCS squelch codes where the tone value was being set to Search.
  • Added support for the UK bandplan.

Version 2.12 - August 5, 2016

  • Fixed issue with importing analog objects from the library that use DCS squelch values.
  • Fixed issue with importing DMR Conventional objects from the library database where the color code would always be set to a value of 0. If DMR channels have been previously imported and have the incorrect color code value, performing an update from the library will correct these values.
  • Fixed object select issue in the preferred import method where a category could not be selected when clicked.
  • Added Alpha Tag update options to the object update screen when updating from the library database based on the object type. This update also allows the app to update alpha tags on wildcard hit and manually entered talkgroup objects from the library database.
  • Updated the help system to include more details about the CSV/Clipboard import functions, available fields, and field values.
  • Fixed an issue where the program could crash when importing the list of audio files on the SD card under certain conditions.
  • Fixed an issue where information about trunked system recordings was not being populated properly in the upper area of the Audio tab under certain conditions.
  • Fixed an issue where importing from a CSV file or the Clipboard would always set the color code to Any if the color code column was not the last column in the data to be imported.
  • Added the ability to specify the scanlist memberships when importing from a CSV file or the clipboard. This feature is available on the conventional, talkgroup, and Radio ID screens. The format of this field is outlined below:
    • To add the object to a single scanlist, enter only the corresponding scanlist number in this column.
    • To add multiple individual scanlists add each corresponding scanlist number of the desired scanlists separated by a semicolon (i.e. 2;3;4 would import the object into scanlists 2, 3, and 4). A semicolon is used for this field since a comma is used to separate fields in a CSV file.
    • To add a range of scanlists add the first and last corresponding scanlist number separated by a dash (i.e. 1-5 would add the object to scanlists 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5).
    • Any combination of individual and scanlist ranges may be used together if they are separated by a semicolon (i.e. 1;3;5-10;20 would add the object to scanlists 1, 3, 20, and 5 through 10).

Version 2.11 - July 11, 2016

  • Revised the method used to update scanlists which resulted in a very noticeable speed difference in the process.
  • Added ability to add a DMR conventional channel using the new channel wizard on the Scanlist tab. To do so, select the Conventional DMR type when adding the channel. DMR options will then be presented.
  • Conventional objects may now be switched between all modes including DMR. When the mode column is selected, a drop-down will appear to allow the selection of the desired channel mode.

    Please note the following:
    • When switching between FM and NFM, the squelch information will be preserved.
    • When switching to or from any other mode, the squelch information will be changed to search mode and the digital mode will be set based on the channel mode.
    • To cancel the mode change once the pull-down appears, press the Esc key.
    • If multiple conventional objects are selected, all objects will be changed to the new mode. Squelch and digital mode changes will be done on an object by object basis.
  • Conventional DMR import will now accept an Asterisk (*) or the word "Any" (Without quotes, not case sensitive) as a color code wildcard value in addition to an empty value. An invalid color code value will also import with a wildcard (any) color code.
  • Conventional objects in the scanlist tab will now show either "Analog" or "DMR" in the system column depending on the conventional object type.
  • Changed the method used to determine the system type on the audio recording screen. This allows the application to show the talkgroup ID in the correct format based on the system type.

Note: Recordings made before CPU Firmware version 3.6 and coming from an EDACS, Motorola type I or type IIi, or LTR systems may not display properly in this software version depending on the currently loaded configuration.
  • Fixed an issue where the object lists in the conventional and trunked import from clipboard or text would autoscroll when the mouse was moved out of the list area.
  • Fixed tab order and selection issues when using tab on conventional object add screens
  • Fixed tab order and selection issues when using tab on the new channel wizard screens in the scanlist tab.
  • Fixed an issue with the conventional import from the clipboard or CSV file where DMR frequencies being imported were being given a color code 0 (Zero) value when the import did not include a color code field. Imported items will now have a wildcard (any) value.
  • Fixed a display bug in the scanlist listing for LTR and EDACS systems.
  • Fixed a crash when attempting to load the listing of audio files stored on the computer when the default audio folder does not exist.

Version 2.10 - June 17, 2016

  • Fixed issue where performing an import of conventional objects would set the squelch values to search mode. This would also cause existing conventional objects that were selected for import from the library to have their squelch values set to search mode.
  • Fixed issue where the default dwell time was not displayed when a trunked system was changed from a specific value back to the default value.
  • Added default dwell time to TSYS listing
  • Added Dwell Time column to the Trunked system list on the Trunked tab. This setting controls how long the scanner will remain on the selected trunking system before giving up and moving on to the next system or frequency.
  • Changed the column header "Modulation" to "Mode" in the conventional import screen to be more consistent with other areas of the application.
  • Added support for new RRDB fields to allow import of DMR settings. These options require library data files version 471 or later.
  • Fixed issue where some DMR systems were not being imported properly when using the location import methods.
  • Added Color Code, Slot, and Talkgroup ID options to the import screen on the conventional import screens. For this information to be imported, the "Mode" or Modulation element to be imported must be set to DMR. "Wildcard" values for these fields are Color Code: -1 (or blank), Slot: 0, Talkgroup ID: 0.
  • Fixed issue where the library import functions would include frequencies that are invalid for the scanner (those below 25MHz for example).
  • Fixed issue where setting a trunking system to DMR would cause the site sub-type to be set to P25 Auto. While this value was shown, it was more cosmetic in nature and did not effect the scanning of the system.
  • Fixed a positioning issue with the squelch edit screen on the conventional channel list.
  • Updated help file to include information about DMR conventional objects and options.
  • Added support for conventional DMR channels. Channels may be added using the preferred import method or add manually from the conventional channel tab.
  • Added a more powerful new channel entry screen when entering new conventional channels from the Conventional tab. This screen allows entering the channel type, Alpha tag, access details (CTCSS/DCS/NAC or DMR settings), and scanlist memberships.

Why repost something that is already a sticky at the top of this very forum?

My apologies. I overlooked the sticky.
If anything, at least anyone can now see the version history in one easy thread for the TRX-1 and TRX-2..

Admin, you can close this thread.
